Thinking about getting an M&P sub.
Familiar with the specs but never handled one.
How would you compare it to a J as far as
concealed "carryability" (is that a word? )
a side by side picture would be nice if anyone has
one.

I own both. I'd consider the M&Pc to be much more comparable to a 2"-2.5" K frame round butt than a J frame. I can (& do) carry a J frame in the pocket or on my ankle all day long no sweat. The M&Pc really needs to be supported by a belt unless you wear some strange clothing. Don't get me wrong - The M&Pc is VERY concealable. I carry my M&Pc under a T-shirt in an IWB very often - it has become my primary summer gun.

Double O,
Now THAT'S a useful set of pictures!
Thank You! I've wondered about whether the compacts can take the same magazine as the full size, do you know?

Wonder no more, because they can.
The reverse obviously does not work.
IME, a M&P compact is a much more useful gun than a snub if you carry on the belt.

From what I've read here, the full size mags of the same caliber will fit the compacts. I believe there are also a couple of options for 'fillers' to carry the full size mags in the pistol.

I have an MP9C and a 649. Both are excellent choices for concealed carry so long as you put them in the proper holster. The 649 works well OWB and even in a pocket holster - if you have large pockets and a decent belt to hold your pants up, but the 9C is a tad large for pockets.
I prefer OWB, strong side, and for this either piece works very well. In the bad part of town I go with the MP9C and two extra magazines for good measure. If I am going to be in an out of the truck and encountering establishments where I can't legally carry concealed then the pocket holster (and a speed strip in the other pocket), for the 649 is a nice option. I'm sure a lot of folks here would have no problem with carrying both. (o;

Is this the item Wyatt and GMC were talking about, for use of full size mag's in the compact model?

Not trying to hijack your post AK.
I got such a JONES over it, that I just had to go down to my local "pusher"(um?)dealer, to fondle one personally. Low $500's w/o night sights. BUT! According to S&W's web site, the M&P9c IS available with factory night sights? The young man claimed, his suppliers catalog did NOT list them as available? He did admit, the catalog he was using was older. And that the supplier (of course) couldn't be contacted on Sundays. Sure like the way the pistol came to it's sights, when brought up from low ready! And I can't imagine anyone needing a lighter trigger stroke weight than that one exhibited?
Nice Gun!
OK, hijack over, THANKS!

FWIW:
Sorry, can't help you with the M&P vs Snubby, but I find my CS9 very easy to cc in a FIST Kydex iwb. The 638 in a FIST Kydex iwb is lighter and even easier to cc.
I consider either excellent choices for the average person who desires to carry a reasonable round in a compact package.
Best Wishes,
Jesse
