What self-defense ammo won't work in 9mm M&Ps
Conversation at the range today was centered on what personal defense loads (hollow points) were reliable in the 9mm M&P series. Then a better question was raised – what standard and +P ammo in the 115gr to 124gr category HAS NOT BEEN RELIABLE in 9mm M&Ps?
Conventional opinion is that current 124gr standard pressure and +P ammo is the preferred load for 9mm guns, but nobody had experiences with factory ammo that did not feed.
Anyone have experience with failure to feed or other problems with specific hollow point ammo in 9mm M&Ps? Most who answer that by saying that an M&P will feed anything have not tried everything.
This question interests me because I have two 9mm M&Ps. Comments??

The Fedral 124 gr. HST's and 147 gr. Hydra Shock work well for me.

I've never put anything (hollow point or otherwise) that didn't function flawlessly in my 9mm M&P. And I've tried pretty close to all there is. Even those sorry Ultramax non jacketed reloads fed and fired without a hitch.

I have run Samson/IMI, WWB and American Eagles through mine so far and not a single hick up. I have shot this strong and also limp wristed it to see what would happen and so far it has not had a problem either.
right now due to ammo shortages i am running wwb defense loads 115 through it. when i can find them i want to use the federal hst 124s because i think they are a good load for the compact.

This goes back to my OR days.15 years worth of Gun shot wounds when we were a level 2 trauma center. The single round that caused the most havoc with human tissue bar none is the infamous Black Talon Round.when the hollow point expands the jacket forms razor barb and eviserates anything in its path.Believe it or not the little 22 cal round has done a number on people shot in the chest cause it plays ping pong internally.......God Bless.....Mike

Thanks for the replies to my original post. I have changed the title and posting a little to focus on the question I was pursuing.........
Does anyone have any real experience with 115-124gr self defense ammo that does NOT function in an M&P 9mm ???

I haven't been able to get my 9c to choke on anything in the 8 months I've owned it? FMJ in 115, 124. 147's in FMJ & JHP both +P and standard. 124's JHP in +P. The little fart doesn't even cough up a hair ball with my LRN 125's? 2000+ through her so far...
I'll run the new Winchester JHP 147's once I can find any more again? Till then I'm running Speer 124 G/D #23618 (Non +P, non-S/B)

I reload so I haven't shot many factory
loads in the M&P 9mm or M&P 40c. They
eat just about anything. Wish I could
say the same for my grand kids. Thats
a whole different post. Don

I've had my M&P9c for over a year now. Probably more than a thousand rounds through it w/o a hiccup. Probably a dozen different kinds of ammo, including some stuff that was more than 20 years old. I couldn't get it to choke on anything.

I've had my M&P going on three years and I've tried almost all of factory stuff...
from WWB, Remington, Federal HS,Cor-Bon +P's,Blazer brass and alum. cased,
Wolf, even Barnaul (from Russia) with the laquer sealing stuff, PMC, not a hiccup!
It goes without saying, but, I'll say it, I love this pistol!
Just shoot 'em and clean 'em...........

I would find it hard to believe these days that any ammo company or pistol manufacturer wouldn't design a gun or ammo that would function 100%. One that comes to mind was the old "Flying Ashtrays" in 45s' that everyone just had to have, and only worked in a limited number of guns. I think the ammo companys know if their bullets don't work well in everything they're not going to sell very many and the same goes for the gunmakers. They have little control after their product after it leaves the plant, it just plain has to work. I have three M&Ps' and do use mostly reloaded ammo or Remington loads, never had a hicup with any of those.

Mine feed everything I can find and will not miss a beat. My M&P .40 FS has over 12,000 rounds downrange of all types and flavors...same result. Sort of like the battery commercial....it just keeps on going and going and going!
