Default How do I take down my M&P40c

I picked up a used M&P40c last week. I was wondering if anyone can tell me how to remove the slide. It has no safety, will not fore w/o mag in place. SR # MPN10xx.

I tried locking the slide back, flipping the lever down, removing the mag, pulling the trigger and sliding forward...no luck.

Am I missing something?

Also, how old is this pistol?

Thanks for any help,

Karnivore

You can download and read the manual for the M&P from S&W.

Figure 18a and 18b page 21.

pull the mag lock the slide back and push down the rod near the mag safety lever then you can swing down the lever down a pull the slid off. or just read the manual it probably has pics so you can get a better idea what i am talking about. i just cleaned mine tonight and it only takes a few seconds to strip it

Remove the mag, lock the slide back and look down inside, you will see a small wire looking lever (mine has yellow painted on it) and push this down as far as it will go, don't force it. If your pistol has the mag safety you will see two wire things, it is the one on the left, looking down into the pistol with the barrel pointed away from you. Then rotate the front slide release lever to vertical position. At this point you will be able to release the slide lock and remove the slide. You will need to make sure this lever is in the down position to re-assemble the pistol. Hope this helps and sorry I'm not well versed in exact pistol terms.

To add a little more specifically, you need to rotate the sear deactivation lever down. It's that thing that everyone else mentioned and has a bend in it. You can use the tool in the butt of the gun but I prefer a pen or something. Some people claim to use their finger but I have no idea how, mine doesn't bend that way.

Don't stick you finger down in opening. This is not a good place to put your finger ever! If the slide were to somehow release you will be very sorry you stuck your favorite finger where it does not belong. It will be very hard to remove from the gun with one hand!!
