S&W M&P10 .308 arrives!
Looks like S&W finally has a better idea. About time someone other than KAC brought some innovation to .308/7.62 platform ARs.
M&P10 - Smith & Wesson

5 round mags (bwahahaha). I'm glad i decided to go the .300 blackout route. At least u can keep all your 30rd Pmags for it.
But on a side note, it's nice to see s&w is upping their game.

Not to burst you bubble but Colt and Sig both have had a 308 AR out for at least 6 months. Colt AR10 allows the user to use a 5.56 upper and mags - thats pretty innovative!
Still, looks nice! Not a fan of the 5 rounders.

A 5 round mag doesn't cut it for me. For that price I'd rather have the M1A

Then it makes it just like any other AR10. You have to buy all new things for an all new gun. With the price of Pmags now days, i'd hate to have to buy some chambered for .308 when I have a gun safe full chambered for 5.56.
Arik hit the nail on the head with his post. If you want and AR10, that is the direction you should be looking. I'm not taking anything away from s&w because they make great products. But you cant argue with a Colt Ar10 taking a .308 and 5.56 upper, as well as accepting 5.56 mags in a .308 lower.
If the high cap mag ban comes around. You'll be kicking yourself for buying something in AR10, if u dont already have a nice stash of AR10 high cap mags. If u already have a stash of 5.56 mags, buy a Colt and then you have urself a very nice specimen that works with all of your mags.

Probably DOA. New ARs arent in the future, I hope we can still get parts to keep the ones we have in service.

the new colt requires an adaptor to allow you to use a 5.56 upper with it, I am afraid we would get back to the stacking tolerances and no one has said what the front pin diameter is on the new Colt.

And since it's a 308 lower, it has the 308 buffer tube, spring, and buffer. Wonder how that would work with a 5.56 gas system?

Oh don't talk about the Gunsite Scout. I made the mistake of throwing the bolt on a left hand model at the LGS. I'm not left handed, and it still felt very very very good. Now I want one.
I like the M&P 10, even with the camo pattern. I'm not sure I want to own one. I'd want to own an AK first. S&W market research, if you're reading this thread I have a suggeston:
S&W M&P 47!
If S&W ever manufactures an AK pattern rifle, I'll put in my order the second it's announced.

I'm glad there are at least two of us that know how to read.
Edit: On a different note, is S&W using a proprietary magazine or can one from a FAL or other popular .308 rifle be used? (hopefully the later)

It states Pmag's are available, it doesn't state which platform though.
I hope it's DPMS/SR25 type.

Nice thing about Colt's LE901 is that the adapter makes it accept any mil-spec .223/5.56 upper though, meaning it would also accept the .300 blk/whisper. Stacking tolerances could become an issue, but none of the reviews I've read point to any problems.

One of the things I said to the S & W rep when I was asking about my 300 upper status was that I had to purchase a S & W lower separate which was difficult to find to begin with then order the upper separate from them to get a black gun so why didn't they offer one instead of having to piece it together myself.

The only reason they are't in the future is that manufacturing facilities are being tied up trying to clear out several million backorders. If we remain vigilant, our grandchildren will be able to inherit our guns and shoot them.
I put together a kit of spare parts in the past to keep mine running because the backorder issue on parts never really got resolved after the original ban expired. I got tired waiting weeks for a simple pin or spring.

Dik, colt has this thing about front pin sizes..I would make sure that the pin size would allow for any upper and not just a Colt!

I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but this review states it can take any mil-spec upper available. We all know anybody can be mistaken, but all the reviews I've read on it point towards any of them working. It does, however, need to change out the recoil system for the .308 vs. .223/5.56. I haven't been able to find any just lowers and adapter yet, but hopefully we'll be able to in the future. It sounds to me as though the .308 upper is proprietary though. But on a good note, the lower is all ambidextrous.

Thats a really nice rifle, I think I will stay with my Icon..besides being a wonderful gift, being a bolt action, I can afford to feed it. It also makes me be more precise with the first shot instead of thinking "if I miss I have a quick follow up or 4" LOL

I need to start shooting that way more often. Trying to anyway. I'm sure you've seen my videos and, well, enough said. I figured I'd wait to get a .308 before that though. Gotta justify just making noise somehow, waiting for a .308 is it for me

I really like the .308. handloading you can really make some good bullets. I have some 130gr Noslers that run 3100fps. Great loads, dont hurt when you shoot and super accurate. using the same load data that I use for my 150gr and 160gr. I dont like to shoot any heavier bullet than that in it.
