M&P10 Mods on a budget!
So if you’re like me you want to mod the new M&P10 you just received as soon as you see the handguard. Only problem is you just spent a chunk of change on the rifle itself. So decisions decisions….
Well first off I had to have a scope, so no budgeting there… just buy it and get it over with! Next I was out to buy a new handguard and accessories. After looking at the expensive Troy Battle Rails and things of that nature I decided to scale back and do something on the cheap (dollar wise) in the interim.
First I have to say the DPMS 308 Panther Receiver Claw made putting on the MAGPUL Midlength MOE Enhanced Handguard a breeze. The other thing I would like to add is that the Swamp Fox Vertical Grip for $25 was an awesome buy… push button bipod action with your thumb… SOLD! Anyway these are the deals I found at the time and just thought I would share them with everyone! Take Care, Bryant!
This is my M&P10 build.

What did you do for scope and mounts?
Sorry, for some reason It didn't show the picture or your link to your Cabela's scope choice until I replied and it reloaded.

I've definitely not gone the budget route, but I love threads like these, seeing what everyone uses for their rifle. In fact, you inspired me to order one of the ERGO A2 Pistol Grip Plug. I suppose I should've asked before I ordered, but they got mixed reviews, how (securely) do they fit in the M&P?

They fit snug to me. I ordered two and both seem secure on my M&P10 and M&P15-22. We shall see after a few times at the range. I don't expect much trouble.

I have a Mapul MOE mid length handguard $33, Mako M4/AR-15 Stock with Internal Shock Absorber and Adjustable Cheek piece $95, A tactical pistol grip $19, a bipod with a sling attachment instead of a rail, and a Sniper Red/Green/Bblue Illumination Scope 6-24x50 With Front AO, Comes with Heavy Duty Ring and Flip-open Lens Cover $175. Overall I think it shoots amazing. The stock really makes a hell of a difference. I have mine setup for Medium to long range shooting. Tell me what you think. Empty it weights just under 12LB.

OK, let's talk budget. First off I didn't get the M&P 10, I got the DPMS LR308 Oracle. Sorry. But that was my first budget constraint. LGS had DPMS for $985 and M&P10 for $1499. Couldn't swing it, but like hanging out here to discuss the platform. And M&P10 have parts in common with DPMS anyway.
Only had this since last Thursday, haven't shot it yet. Only mod so far is the Ergo grip. Much better than the one that came with it.
Mine came with the carbine length Glacier guard handguard. These are the same as on my Colt 6920, and I like them. I'm going to put a picatinny rail on the bottom, but not the top, and won't replace it. But I like the rubberized gripability of my Ergo pistol grip, so I'm going to make the handguard the same........with this.
LOL, yeah yeah but it works. And it actually looks good if you take it easy and take your time. Will post pics later.
The stock will have to go though can't get any kind of decent cheek weld, even before scoping it. I like the mako m4/ar15 stock. Will splurge on it since I'm saving a bunch on the handguard
Finally a tip for all guns that's I live by. Tetra Gun. Its a flour0polymer cleaner and light lubricant. This is the first thing I use on any new gun. Strip it, clean it an Tetra Gun it. If you gun is mag fed, removable or not, take the mag apart and use the Tetra on it. You will be glad, I've experienced far fewer fte's and loading issues since using this.

Just got my M&P 10 yesterday. Been waiting for a few months to get it in stock. I want to replace the furniture, get a scope (BDC), bipod and additional mags. Taking all suggestions and would love to know the best path to go. 308 win or 7.62x51.

Commander, mine runs great on American made USGI surplus 7.62x51 and Federal Gold Medal Match .308. Folks have reported problems with CBC imported 7.62. I replaced the stock with a VLTOR and installed a Troy TRX-308 handguard. There are other options. The Magpul 308 Pmags seem to be the gold standard for mags. PM me if you have any specific questions I may be able to answer.

Did you have any problems getting the MOE handguard on. I tried to put one on and couldn't get it to fit between the barrel nut and the Delta ring. It looked like it might fit with some Dremel work.

Hey, did you have to do anything special to install the stock or does it just slide right on. I could use one like that.

IIRC, lots of guys had issues replacing with MOE. A delta ring(?) tool is recommended, in order to put enough pressure on the spring to get the Magpul kit installed.

I feel as if the delta ring is already suppressed as far as it will go when I try to get the MOE on

It was a bit of a fight to get the MOE handguards on the Big Smith, but it was worth it. It also got easier each time I removed them for cleaning
But it's since been replaced with a Lancer free float tube which I like even better

I don't remember my Magpul having the rough surface like that does on the lip that engages the delta ring. I would check but it's in the attic after I installed a free float hand guard on mine.
