Best route for a .260 Remington Upper?
I know there is no guarantee that another brand upper will fit the M&P since there is no Milspec to follow. I would like a .260 Rem upper and still keep my 7.62 upper.
I know there are two manufactures loading the 6.5 Creedmore vs 1 for the .260 but I'm more worried about long-term brass availability and there will always be .243 brass to neck up or .308 brass to neck down. I think absolutely identical magazine feeding is an advantage of the .260 over the 6.5.

Has the situation changed in the last 9 weeks? Any new knowledge?
Anyone making barrels? Anyone know if the barrel is proprietary or just the barrel extension?
My M&P10 fits the pins on my AR-10 vice block perfectly so exactly what is preventing someone from putting another upper on an M&P10 lower?

Has anyone ever tried putting other brands of uppers to see if they will fit and possibly function?
My brother has a DPMS .308. Guess I'll have to see if uppers will interchange when he gets back in a few days.
I would love to have other caliber options also.

I have heard somewhere that the front upper receiver lug is narrower on the M&P and a DPMS upper won't physically fit the lower. I have no idea if this is actually true.
If that is all, it sounds like a job for my milling machine

Better yet, it would nice to see S&W offer uppers in other calibers.
I'm guessing that isn't going to happen for some time, as I am sure they have their hands full just trying to meet demand on current products.

The following is S&W's answer to my question "How long before S&W offers uppers and/or barrels for the S&W M&P10?", posted on another forum
"Hi, We currently do not have any other options in terms of calibers or barrel types for the M&P10 at this time. As with all new product roll outs there may be line extensions in the future.
Thanks! S&W"

Can't believe some aftermarket barrel supplier hasn't jumped on this yet.
Guess they can sell all they can make now, without messing with a new product.

We may be getting closer!
Just recently, a S&W rep said the following in a thread on another forum:
"We are in the process of adding M&P 10 parts to our website and customer service phone support. As of right now I am not sure what exact parts are available but you can call customer service and request parts at: 1-800-331-0852 "
"The barrel threading of the M&P10 is compatible with the DPMS barrel threading" made in reference to attaching forends
"As of right now, you cannot purchase barrels directly from S&W. I am working op getting that changed, but it may take a little while. I will post once we get these items available for purchase."
Am hoping that it would be possible to buy a S&W barrel extension or remove one from a S&W barrel and install it on a DPMS barrel, or have a custom barrel made.

Thanks for the update prairie. I keep waiting. The G2 DPMS is starting to look good. I really like the S&W quality however.

Gave up waiting. Built a Savage 110 6.5x55 with a custom hand-made Mcgowen match barrel. I can load to modern pressures and do better than the Rem or Creedmore and will always find factory ammo even in a scare.
Will keep my M&P10 stock except for the free-float rail, Syrac adjustable gas block, and Wilson Combat Accu-Tac flash suppressor (more effective and much shorter--also helical self tightening design needs no jam nut for frequent swaps with sound suppressor (silencer).
