Buffer/tube question
I just put a magpul prs stock on my m&p10 and was wondering if I should run it with the stock buffer or an A2 rifle buffer the stock mounts on.
Thanks, -Guff

i put on a magpul ctr and kept the stock buffer tube. search this board for a recent discussion on buffer tubes and buffers and springs... you have to be careful and get just the right combination or either the bolt carrier won't come back far enough to feed properly, or can come back too far and possibly damage the lower.

If you have a fixed factory stock / tube extension and you're just swapping actual stocks for the PRS, then that's all you need. If you're swapping collapsible for a fixed stock you need to replace the tube and get a spacer. The buffer and spring are reused.

I took off the s&w buffer tube which uses a collapsible stock, and took out the s&w buffer and spring.
I put on an A2 rifle tube which uses a fixed stock, and put in an A2 rifle length buffer and spring.
Im asking if anyone has done this, I.E. will it cycle correctly with an A2 rifle buffer and spring? Or should I put the s&w buffer and spring back in with the spacer I read about.
Thanks, -Guff

you will need a spacer either way...just different lengths
If you go through the "stock options" thread, Myself and others have looked closely at this, and S&W has a part available to use your existing buffer in a rifle tube

The way S&W says to do it is, Replace tube with Rifle length and order the spacer from S&W, Maintaining use of original carbine buffer spring and buffer.
So only thing new would be rifle length tube, and spacer. (well and new stock)

The Mass compliant one i got had the adjustable stock pinned to the tube. i was able to drill it out and remove the factory stock(slightly mangled where i drilled) and replace with the ctr... no change of tube necessary.

Using the A2 buffer and spring may cause cycling issues. The buffer (weight) and spring are proprietary to S&W and are the exact specs needed to cycle the bolt. As the previous poster said, check out the Stock Options thread, it's all there.
