muzzle brakes, again
Two questions:
1. Do brakes degrade long range accuracy?
2. How difficult is it to change on M&P 10.

What is your definition of long distance? If its far enough you have to compensate for brake pull off

OK, being a Vietnam Marine who cherished his M14 before they took it away from me, and very much liking the ability to hit a bullseye at 500 Yds with mechanical sights...and knocking it down. I am just asking the question if the muzzle brake degrades the long distance power of the weapon. If it does I won't even think about it as my shoulder is still OK with the recoil.

I mounted a screw-on Grizzly "The Hunter" brake on my M&P10 and all I can say is--> stop looking at it and BUY IT !
To answer your question, NO, Grizzly brakes do not degrade accuracy. I can say this because I also have a 2nd brake (Grizzly's Defcon 1) on my Savage Arms Model 10FCP-SR (.308/7.62x51mm) Rifle and out to 1,000 yd neither I nor anyone else can note any accuracy degradation whatsoever.

Should I presume "brake pull off" means drop of the projectile due to lower velocity? If so, how many inches at 1000 yds compared to no brake?
Thanks

Dave, there's no adverse affect on velocity w/ any and all of Jeff's (Grizzly Muzzle Brakes) products.

"Timing" would be brake specific. Most will not need timing because the hole pattern does not have a top hole. That's how my kdf is. Browning used to have an adjustable brake so that you could tune the barrel harmonics to the round...or so they claimed.

Hey, from the looks of 'em, if'n they don't do what you want for muzzle rise; in a have to case, you can at least use 'em to remove hemorrhoids from your huntin' buddy at camp. (Those suckers look SHARP) Do a mag dump beforehand, and you can even cauterize the wound as you perform the surgery.

Just tighten it down until the center row of ports face up. My crush washer gives you over 1 full turn of adjustment.
If you want to compensate for some right hand movement, just tighten the brake until the center row of ports face the 1:30 position

I just bought the PWS FSC-30 Flash Suppressing Compensator. I read someone elses post about and since he liked it, I am going to try it.
I bought a Shooting Chrony Chronograph, so I will take some shots with the brake and with the suppressor that comes on the gun. At least we can see if that one changes speeds or not.
I wish I could do it this weekend after our shoot, but the damn thing didn't come with the shim set. I called PWS and they are going to ship it to me. I will report back!

Whether or not a muzzle device will affect accuracy will depend on the device and the barrel. One thing to look out for is over tightening the muzzle device and causing distortion at the muzzle end.
I don't know what "pull-off" means, but if it means it will change where the bullet will strike at long distances compared to a bare muzzle because the muzzle won't rise as much, no. A compensator or brake doesn't work without the gasses and the gasses won't enter the comp or brake until the bullet exits the muzzle
