I'd change out the polymer MBUS for metal BUIS of you're going to keep the front sight on the gas block.

Just my 2¢…

Less than 8lbs, 1oz as it sits right now. Trying to decide on a magnified optic and bipod that will keep the weight down.

Don't put an Accupoint on it if you are concerned about the weight. They are nice scopes but heavy. The Atlas bipod I have isn't very light either but according to the YouTube video I just watched it is lighter than the Harris. Who knew

I like the brake but I was expecting more recoil reduction and it is loud. It is worth it though because I can stay on target now. As for the bipod it's an Atlas. I like it a lot. I prefer not to have external springs and it is, I believe, more adjustable than the Harris. I think there is a YouTube video about it.

Thanks, it's so hard to find info about the relative strength to weight ratio for a bipod. I'm thinking about just putting on a Grip Pod in order to keep the weight down.

yeah, I cut the ambi flush with the interior of the receiver and epoxied it back in place, looks stock, but the ambi doesn't work.

Yep, I would be done as well! Show us some groups big boy! I hope yours will hit something cause mine won't hit the broad side of a barn and went back over a week ago!

I shot better groups with my old Colt 15 iron sights last weekend that the 10 has done yet with three different scopes!!

I used Rustoleum. The handguard alone was sprayed with a textured Carribean for better grip, then I used Satin Fossil, Satin Nutmeg, Satin Warm Caramel and Flat Brown on the whole rifle. The photo above was taken before the handguard was painted. I'll try to take a couple new photos soon.

For accuracy, I've been testing a few different loads. Groups have shrunk about a half to a full MOA with the installation of the free float handguards. Three shot groups with the Hornady and Nosler 165/168 gr polymer tip bullets are coming in between 1 and .75 MOA. Winchester Silvertips were just under 1.5 MOA. Of course, three shot groups don't tell the whole story but ammo has been limited but accuracy is more than adequate for taking game, even past reasonable ranges.

I haven't weighed it in it's current configuration, but it's probably about 9 lb unloaded. Not as light as a Remington Mountain Rifle, but recoil isn't as heavy or as sharp

This is at 100 yds with some reloads someone gave me. This was before the PRS install but it's still shooting the same. I didn't take any pics of the last target.

Absolutely correct and congrats on a fine looking buck. My M&P 10 is to be used in the same manner but I haven't got to let her pose with a deer yet. Well done!

My M&P 10 has been busy this deer season. So far I have taken 3 does with it and only one has made it out of her tracks.

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner on this question, I've been really busy the last couple months and it slipped my mind. LOP with the home made spacer is 13.75 inches and 13.00 inches without it

How do you like that scope? I was thinking of getting the same one since its on sale at Cabelas for $499. Just not sure if it would be to difficult for me with the MRAD reticle. I've only been shooting for about 2 years and have only used MOA scopes.

Yeah, thats a totally different scope that was on sale at Cabelas. They were selling the HS model, which was a really good price at $499, but the PST FFP versions are typically around $900.

This is an awesome piece of glass, and is arguably the value leader in its class given all the features:
Illuminated First Focal Plane Reticle
Milrad reticle with matching turrets
50mm objective
Waterproof
Shockproof
No questions asked lifetime transferable warranty

There aren't many other optics that come close feature-wise at this price point.

I havent shot it yet on the M&P10 but have been shooting the 6-24x50 on top of a Remington 700 5R 300WinMag the past week on a hunting trip. It seems more at home on top of that rifle given the high magnification.

However, I also had a Vortex 4-16x50 PST FFP EBR1 which I mounted now on top of the M&P10 and that seems like a better match.

I've been interested in a .308 for awhile. Went back and forth between bolt action and AR platform. My LGS made up my mind with an offer I couldn't refuse! Yes I had to modify to make it mine. I went with (for now):
Magpul stock and MS-3 sling
Ergo grip
Fortis Picitinney sling mount and forward hand stop
Osprey long eye relief 3-9 40MM Mil-Dot lighted reticule
TRU-Glo 1/2 rail riser
Nikon 30 MM P-mounts
(I could not get a good cheek weld, especially with low profile ear-muffs)
UTG 2 piece Quad rail
Harris Bi-pod (yes I know it will eventually affect my groups)
Velocity 4# trigger (All my other AR triggers are 4#, SWEETEST trigger for the $'s IMHO and Tom is easy to talk to)

After about 30 rnds for break-in, I zeroed at 50yd and first 3 rnds made 2 holes (rnd #2, enlarged hole from rnd #1) with less than .6" spread. At 100yd, 3 rnds in .7" with rnd 4&5 at .85".

The nut behind the trigger is the limiting factor. At 200yds 12"x12" steel I'm hitting 9 out of 10. At 300yds on a 12"x36" I'm hitting 9 out of 10.

Again I'm the limiting factor and considering I'm only amature status, and no formal training (a lot of coaching by friends and B-in-laws) I'm happy with the results. I guess the next step would be a free float hand guard, but it will always be there.

What do you think?

Blooded my MP10 on 15 pointer fallow stag.

My 14 yo boy also got a spiker with my Sako 85S, so lots of venison now in the freezer.

HaHa, all my scopes are S&B. addicted to their quality.

The main purpose for the MP10 is for "sniper" competitions here in NZ, 2 persons, 1 precision (.338) and 1 operator (.308)

Index

Hence why I was determined to get 1" of less groups.
Always nice to blood them, and Fallow is delicious

Posted this in a thread about .308 suggestions... Figured I would repost here as well. I've had my S&W M&P10 for about 2 years now. At first, I was really disappointed in its performance. It seemed to have real problems cycling low pressure ammo and just had lots of teething issues in general. I decided to have a buddy of mine who is a qualified gunsmith tear it down and put it back together for me to see if he could figure anything out. When I did this, I changed the gas block and put a Troy quad rail on it and I also decided to hydrodip the rifle in that multicam tiger stripe (not really my favorite, but it works well here in FL). After it was torn down and reassembled, I haven't had any problems with it. Shoots low pressure and high pressure loads, both suppressed and unsuppressed without any issues. I didn't ask him what he did, but I guess he tweaked a couple things and now it just runs. I also decided to go with a fixed A2 stock. To do this, I had to call S&W to send me a spacer for the buffer tube because the M&P10 buffer and buffer spring are proprietary.

Optics are a Leupold VxR 3-9, Aimpoint T1 on a KAC offset mount, and KAC offset irons. It's also got a Geissele 2 stage trigger in it and the bipod is an Atlas on a LaRue mount. I don't plan on changing anything else with this rifle. I'm pretty satisfied with it in its current form. I'm waiting to see what DD comes out with next. I don't have a huge need for more than one .308 AR because its primary purpose is hunting and maybe an occasional scoped rifle class. The DD .308 would primarily be for fun shooting and I would keep it simple. But anyway, here's my M&P10:

Thanks for looking!

Looks good to me!

Can't help you much with the ammo. Some rifles are really picky on what they like. Some shoot cheap ammunition well but not good match ammo. Others are the opposite. Some rifles prefer a specific brand and bullet weight above all others. One just never really knows but to try different ammo and figure out what your particular rifle likes best. With any luck, more than one rifle that yo have in that caliber is fine with it as well. Ain't shootin' fun?

Not so. The M&P-10 uses an A5 style RE, carbine buffer and if I'm not mistaken, a rifle spring

Very nice rifle, by the way. I like what you did with it

Thumbs up AR15 buffer tube fits MP-10 threads

Easiest way to 'fix' an A2 stock install on an MP-10:
[A2 Stock Issue
It will function AS-WAS if you make an aluminum (or whatever) cylinder to drop down the longer A2 tube, then just drop the stock spring and buffer on top of it. If you will carefully measure the inside length of the stock S&W folder's tube, then the inside of the A2's tube you can determine the length of the plug(cylinder) you need. This will trick the stock parts into believing they are still in the stock S&W folder.
I have heard that a stack of quarters will suffice in the interim. Cheers!

Yes, it works and not a hiccup..

Just picked mine up the other day. Can't wait to shoot it. I thought it was difficult to purchase a weapon in California its harder to find a place to legally fire them!
