Default Midwest Industries SS free float hand guard install

Just got my M&P10 and put 15 inch hand-guards on last night. Anyone else have a hard time getting the gas tube notch to line up? Meaning if I backed it off to the notch before I was barely at 20 foot-pounds. I had to constantly loosen and torque it again to get it to line up. I was worried it would snap the upper. I had to go over 60 foot-pound to get it in the right spot. Never had this issue on my AR-15's. It seems like the barrel nut is less forgiving.

There is nothing wrong with 60 pounds, that is a well made nut and forearm, enjoy.

I just got everything from Midwest. It was really slick because they had the block and dust cover rod on the same page.

I think I know why my torque numbers got so high. I was using a Sears beam style wrench and I was not paying attention to how I was holding the handle so it didn't interfere with the output. I just need to get another clicker style wrench.

Hopefully your rail doesn't walk off the barrel nut like mine did.
