Default Mini Review of LaRue Tactical MBT-2S Trigger

Hey all, just wanted to share my experience with installing and shooting the LaRue Tactical MBT-2S trigger in my M&P 10. I run Geissele triggers in all my other rifles, but when I saw a good deal that LaRue was offering on their new trigger recently, I just couldn't pass it up.

Install in my M&P 10 required removal of both the right-side bolt catch release as well as the safety. I just couldn't get the trigger to fit in with the safety installed. Quickly removing the grip and then the screw that holds the right-side safety selector in place got the safety out and the trigger dropped right in. The rest of the installation was a snap. If you've ever installed an AR-15 trigger before you'll be right at home. Re-install of the safety, grip and right-side bolt catch was straight forward. You'll want to have an appropriately sized punch and small hammer for driving out and re-installing the pin that secures the bolt catch.

Today I had a chance to take my big Smith out in the field and do some shooting with the new trigger. Before I left I applied small amounts of grease to the bearing surfaces of hammer and dis-connector. Once in the field I set up at about 120 yards shooting at an 8" steel gong. I was firing PPU 145 grain ammo and sighting with both a Trijicon RMR red dot sight (3 MOA dot) and a Leupold VX-R Patrol 3-9x variable zoom scope.

The trigger feel is quite good with a clean take up and consistent break on the second stage, a definite improvement over the stock piece. Reset is crisp and has a nice audible click as well. I ran about 200 rounds through the rifle with the new trigger and had zero malfunctions or concerns. I was able to easily put rounds on the steel gong and the lighter break and consistency relative to the stock trigger was appreciated, particularly when shooting standing unsupported.

While I find the feel of the trigger right at break point to be a touch rougher than my Geissele triggers (SSA, Super SCAR), this might be due to it being so new. Once things wear in a little bit I expect it to smooth out. To be sure, this is a very minor difference and not at all something to be concerned about.

I'm absolutely happy with my purchase and would recommend considering the LaRue MBT-2S trigger for the big Smith if you're looking for a trigger upgrade. Installation was slightly more complicated than a typical AR-15 install, but nothing too challenging and the results are excellent. It really finishes off my M&P 10 build nicely.

Thanks for thorough review.

I saw that deal by Larue - incredible sale price - and when I was deciding whether to purchase one or the max of two, they sold out. Suck.

Glad it works well in the Big Smith. Thats exactly what I would've done with one as well.
