Question Scope Recommendations

Have the M&P 10 and would like some good input on scopes that will hold up under Deer hunting conditions, tired of having to re-sight scope after several firings, also any recommendations on scope mount combos would be nice, thanks

Just my two cents.

1. The short rail on the receiver does not allow for proper mounting---particularly eye relief---on many AR style rifles unless you have one with the forearms that continue the slots past the receiver, so,

2. You either buy a scope/ring combo mount that has a good deal of forward offset (about $225.00 from Larue or J-mar----there may be some new other brands now that I have not seen), or,

3. You buy a swan sleeve which mounts to the rail but has its on rail that extends over the forearm (about $89.00), and buy a set of rings---lowest you can use without the scope objective contacting the sleeve of the forearm. You have to play with this (the rings part) at a good store----it is too difficult to try and measure and guess on all of this at home. Mount or sleeve you will probably have to order online because few stores carry the offset mounts or and none carry the swan sleeve.

4. The smaller your objective, the lower the height on the scope and more comfortable. 50MM scopes are not neccessary. There are 40MM, 36MM, 32MM and such scopes out there which will be fine for this.

5. You can't skimp on scopes----you just waste your time. I suggest Leupolds and Burris scopes primarily. Some my suggest a Nikon and some other moderate priced scopes. Stay away from cheap crud. A plane-jane 4 power compact will serve you well unless you just have to have one of those variables. A 3-9 is very common and they do have a use as the big power is VERY nice when you want to pop very small critters.

Good luck.

i just bought a vortex for my mp 10 a couple weeks ago, they also have the cantilever mount for the ar style rifles, i went with the 2 inch model. so far everything works perfect. i got the vortex viper 6-24x50 ffp with the ebr2c mrad reticle, the scope was 900 bucks, the mount was 90 bucks, this is the most i have ever spent on a scope, but this is also the most i have ever spent on a rifle too. im sure you could get some real good results with a nikon or any other medium priced scope too, i just wanted to try out the vortex company. but regardless of what scope i got i would definitley get the cantlever mount. if not, you WILL have eye relief problems and even worse than that, when you weld your cheek youll be looking over the top of it. just my 2 cents, good luck

I installed a Leupold scope pulled off another rifle where I was updating the optics. It's a VariX II 3X9-40 and is working exceedingly well. It's on a Burris quick release PEPR mount. So far, I have no expectations to replace it. Good luck!

Most of my rifles have Leupold or Burris scopes mounted but, I have strayed from those brands simply for economic reasons. I acquired a Nikon 6 x 18 Buckmasters Target Model with side focus for a Remington Mod. 700 .223 and it has been more that what I hoped for at a price of $300.00.

Now, don't beat me up to much on this but, I acquired a DPMS Oracle in .308 and needed another scope. I had looked at several different models and decided that I would take a look at the Vortex Scopes. I happened to be in Huntsville, AL on the opening weekend of the new Cabela's store. They had the Vortex Diamondback 4 x 12 Scope, with side focus, on sale for $229.95 but, they were sold out. The same scope in 4 x 16 x 42 was available for $249.95 so, I jumped in with both feet.

I used Leupold QRW mounts with a ARMS riser and it is perfect. The rifle will shoot M.O.A groups all day long at 100 and 200 yards with my hand loads and I took a nice 8 pt. buck on opening day in the neighboring state of Kentucky.

The scope is well made and repeatable. I believe that the Diamondback models are being closed out and on sell at most major optical web sites but, I would buy another one if I had a need.

Vortex, Nikon and Burris are made in the Philippines and maybe at the same facility. They provide a lot of value for the dollar IMO.

I am rather new to the use of scopes, resulting from my switch from service rifle competitions to F class competitions. My scoped AR is a hybrid: a Bushmaster lower with a White Oak Armament match upper. I have a 20 MOA added cantilever mount holding an old Weaver El Paso T10. This is providing a very sturdy set up. Most of the loads in this rifle are a bit hot (but safe) intended to keep an 80gr MatchKing supersonic at 1000 yards. I have an old Weaver El Paso T16 on my 308 bolt F class rifle.

Now on the Remington 700 Long Range in 7mm Remington Magnum that I use for 1000 yard F class matches, I have a milirand reticle Vortex Viper 6-24x. The nice thing about the Vortex scope is the no questions asked lifetime warranty, no matter if you are the first owner or the fifth.

For your MP10, I would strongly suggest that you use a cantilever mount. I don't think that you would go wrong with a Weaver, Leupold, Redfield, Lyman, or Vortex scope. Try to avoid Wally World specials selling for $100 or less, because you get what you pay for.

I'm pretty happy with the Weaver "Midway" Tactical Grand Slam: 3-10x40mm, MilDot retical/MilDot adjustments, 2nd focal plane (reticle size does not change size with zoom), 1-inch tube, Made in Japan. $300
I am currently using the Nikon M-308 (#832) mount: 1" tube, +20MOA slope; very similar to the M-223XR mount.

I have a Nikon M-223XR (#840) 30mm scope mount, added spacers for 1" tube scopes. The XR "Xtra-Rise" mounts have a 20MOA slope for distance. Has only seen the range twice - perfect condition. Great mount. Willing to sell the M-223XR.

I mounted a Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 in a Leupold Mark 2 IMS mount on My M&P10 LE model. I really love both the scope and mount. The low light capabilities of the Conquest is amazing and really comes in handy when the deer are moving early and late. EuroOptic has a great deal on the Conquest. Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 Zplex Reticle 5214609920 - EuroOptic.com which is $100 cheaper than what Cabelas is selling the same scope for under their Cabelas Instinct Euro label. Both scopes are actually made by Meopta and are hard to beat as the best bang for your money in a 3-9x40 hunting scope.

You could look at the M-308 or P-308 scopes made by Nikon. They are made specifically for the .308 round and for shorter barreled rifles. The M-308 comes with a one piece, 20 MOA mount. I don't know if the P-308 does or not.

I have both the 800BDC and Nikoplex models on my M&P10 and Mossberg MVP Patrol and I've been very happy with their performance.

Nikon's M-Series scopes and based on their Monarch line and the P-Series on their Prostaff line. The Monarch being the better of the two but Nikon overall makes some pretty good scopes for the money.

Of course, the previous suggestions are good choices as well. Votex and Weaver would be about the same quality class as the Nikon and Leupold would be equal or better depending on which model you pick.

Thumbs up Here is a 'sleeper' to consider

Coupled with a good 45-degree offset iron sight set-up; the legendary Leupold company has had a 2-7x with a very useful and instant acquisition 'turkey plex' reticle. Used mostly on shotguns and cross-bows it went under most AR users radar. The described set-up will give you CQB speed into the area that the 2x becomes desirable and then allows for a 7x precise acquisition on a 4" area at 200M. It is light weight and even with a 1" tube the clarity is excellent

Leupold VX-1 Shotgun Scope 2-7x 33mm Turkey Plex Reticle Matte $219.99
Burris AR-P.E.P.R. 1-Piece Extended Scope Mount Picatinny-Style with Integral Rings Flattop AR-15 Matte $89.99

Good point. If the scope can take the recoil of a turkey load, it can most definitely take the recoil of a .308 round.

Default Primary Arms 4 - 14 x 40 scope and mount.

I bought a Primary Arms 4 - 14 x 40 first focal point scope from Amazon (you can also get it from Primary Arms) for $180, and the offset mount for $35, also from Primary Arms. I like the combination so much, I bought a second scope along with Weaver Tactical 30MM low mount rings for my Remington 700 in 300 blackout.

The scope:

Primary Arms 4-14X44 Mil Mil FFP Scope | Primary Arms

and the mount:

Primary Arms Deluxe AR15 Scope Mount (30mm) - PADLXSM - Primary Arms

And the sun shade:

Primary Arms Sun Shade for our 4-14X FFP Scope

I also have several Nikon scopes (p-22 and P-223), and a Vortex. I'd put the Primary Arms scope up against any of them.

Top notch optics, all brass internals, and first focal point MIL MIL scope for under $500!

I've read some very good things about PA optics.
