Default Leapers UTG PRO Super Slim Free Float rail

I installed a Leapers UTG PRO Super Slim Free Float Rail (part number MTU020SSC ) on my S&W M&P 10 along with a JP Enterprises adjustable gas block (part number JPGS-5B ). I am using the Armalite AR-10 carbine length gas tube (part number 10007005 ).

The bipod is a Leapers UTG bipod (part number BP69ST) - the best $25 I ever spent!

The scope is a Primary Arms 4-14x44 First Focal Plane mil dot scope - $220 (part number PA4-14XFFP) on a Primary Arms 30MM mount - $60 (part number PADLXSM ).

The stock is a Magpul PRS - $200

The fit and finish of the Leapers UTG rail is INCREDIBLE. The height of the rail perfectly matches the rail on the upper receiver.

The adjustment screw for the JP Enterprises adjustable gas block is easy to access through one of the slots in the rail, shown here.

Default How does she shoot?

It was cold and windy here yesterday, so I didn't get to go shooting

I want to zero my scope at 100 yards, and it was gusting to 35 mph . . .

Maybe next weekend.

Did you need the gas tube to clear the forgrip or to work with the gasblock?

Default gas tube required?

No. I damaged the original gas tube trying to get it out of the gas block (actually, the machine shop did).

The original gas block has the picatinny rail on top, so it doesn't fit under the rail.

I also used a low profile JP Enterprises adjustable gas block, because I have a Gemtec HVT suppressor.

Default FINALLY got to shoot my M&P

I went out to the public range this morning and shot 100 rounds of Federal Gold Medal Match (168 grain match king).

It was a perfect day to go shooting. 50 degrees and no wind.

I am shooting from a bench with a bipod up front and a sand bag under the rear of the stock. all shots were 5 shot groups at 100 yards.

It took me a few turns to dial in the JP Enterprises adjustable gas block. I started out 2 full turns out from fully seated in, then put 1 round in the mag, took the shot, and then made 1/2 turn increments out until the bolt locked back on the last round. At 3 1/2 turns the bolt locked back, so I gave it another 1/4 turn out, and tightened the set screw. The next 96 rounds ran perfectly. no feed or ejection problems, and the bolt locks back on the last round EVERY TIME.

I was only loading 5 rounds in the mag each time, so I had 20 mag changes that went off without any issue.

recoil is almost half of what the stock setup was. The stock M&P is DEFINITELY over gassed! You can feel the bolt as it travels back, and then forward. It's not the explosive recoil of the stock setup, just a smooth sort of push recoil. VERY NICE.

I am running the stock M&P 10 buffer and buffer spring. I do not have the buffer spring spacer that some people are using from S&W. I don't think you need it. I don't think the buffer is bottoming out either, which is why the recoil feels so smooth.

Ejected brass is landing to the right and back, maybe 4:00 from the shooter, and all landed in a small 3 foot area.

Best 3 groups were .465, .491 and .503 inches. Most of the groups were somewhere around .700 to .750. I was shooting better than usual too. What an awesome day!

Default M&P performance

I'm still on a shooting high from today.

I want to go out again, but at almost $1.50 a round, I'm financially limited. It is going to be a week or two before I can buy more ammo.

There were two older guys (65 to 70 years old) at the table next to me that were shooting custom Accuracy International bolt guns - they had all the toys - chronograph, annemometer, and they were calculating their ballistics. I've seen these two out at the range before. I asked one of them about what bulk ammo I could try, and mentioned Hirtenberger, Radway Green, and some others, but they both said hand loading is the way to go.

Besides components - primers, powder, bullets, I'd have to buy the reloading equipment. That's an investment I can't do right now. It also takes a lot of trial and error to work up a load that works in my M&P 10.

What is everyone shooting for match grade ammo? Lithuanian, portugese, German DAG or MAN? I am interested in what works best in the M&P, NOT other guns.

Please don't recommend cheap bulk stuff - Tula and silver bear might be ok, but I am interested in accuracy.

Put the proper spacer in that stock before you screw up! It acts as a mechanical stop for the bolt to prevent overtravel that may damage the receiver.

Change ammo to a quicker powder and you may be in for a surprise!

Nice looking rifle. Are you using a rifle length buffer tube with the original spring and buffer? I recommend you get the spacer. If it hasn't happened already your bolt will be impacting your receiver at the back of the stroke.

As far as match ammo the standard is Federal Gold Medal Match. It shoots well in most any quality rifle. My M&P 10 would do 1" groups with it.

Default Magpul PRS with rifle length buffer tube

Yes, I am running the Magpul PRS with rifle length buffer tube. I am also running the original S&W buffer and buffer spring. I do not have the spacer.

I'll have to look into getting the buffer spacer.

Just curious, are there any impact marks inside your lower receiver at the rear? I'd be surprised if the wide part of the bolt carrier is not hitting the receiver on the backward stroke.
