Default UTG Pro slim free float installed

Just got my free float handguard , with mini gas block installed on the M&P 10. I really think this is a first class handguard, installation was not difficult, and went very smooth, feels great in the hand and you have the option of many types of rails to put on for your needs. This rifle just shoots great, the Atlas bipod makes a very good shooting rest and it is very light and super well made. yes I am one happy old man!

Now to replace the stock flash suppressor.

Personally, I like the stock suppressor. It has some brake qualities to it and it screams 7.62/.308. No one with any firearm experience will mistake what round is being shot out of that rifle.

I like the stock brake, it does a good job of stabilizing the rifle during rapid fire, think I will keep it.

Except it's a flash hider and not a brake. What you're experiencing is the negligible muzzle rise due to a superior gun design.

Put a real brake on it and it will go from "good job" to amazing.

Oh yeah, I also have the Super Slim Pro on my AR 15. It's a great forearm. I love the small profile and it's super stable.

S&W, in their description, and many tests of the rifle I have seen, said that it is both a flash hider and brake, I took it off and shot the rifle, what ever it is called it does help with stabilization during rapid fire.

I've installed handguards from quite a few makes, and the UTG Pro handguards are as good as any of the more popular (and more expensive) brand names. It's gtg.

I really like that hand guard on the M&P 10, to answer another poster's question about your gas block, it is lo-profile is it not, and the Smith and Wesson is built as a "high profile" DPMS platform.

There are both low and hi DPMS platform rifles, its important to get the right handguard to fit your rifle, though the low style is going "out of style".

I believe DPMS is now out of business?? a recent search of GB showed a dozen or so S&W M&P 10's at auction, starting around 1200 dollars.

Thumbs up Nothing is more fun at the range

Yep, nothing is more fun to take to the range than a 308 AR, well, maybe a 300 HAM'R is almost as much fun??

The 308 AR is capable of incredible accuracy, I've been very pleasantly surprised, 7.62/.308 is a great place to start!

I opted for no muzzle device on my rifle, although there are some amazing flash hider/muzzle brakes on the market...

How did it feel weight-wise? I'm looking for a long and lightweight free floating hand guard. I'll look into the Pro line. It is very irritating that so many manufacturers of things where weight might be an issue don't publish weights, or critical dimensions.

What barrel nut wrench did you use to remove the M&P 10 nut? My standard AR wrench isn’t large enough for the diameter of this barrel.

Thanks!

I don't remember the brand but I bought a wrench marked specifically for SR25/LR308/AR10 rifles. I think from Brownell's. If not them, Midway USA but more than likely Brownell's.

EDIT: Don't buy a plastic wrench. Get a real steel one.
