Default For those using an M-308 Nikon

How much does your POI shift when changing magnification? I would assume with a side focus correcting for parralax for the most part, POI wouldn't shift much. I'd probably hunt in the 8x-10X tops but want to be able to go up/down and not move POI much, if at all.

I've only shot it at the range at max magnification since that is when the BDC is correct.

I've got the nikoplex reticle. I guess I should have mentioned that. I basically want to know how far off the crosshair will be from min to max and in between...

That, I don't have an answer for as a guess, I would say the turret adjustments for yardage would be calibrated the same since it's still the same scope. There is a way to figure out how far BDC reticules are off at certain magnifications but I forget what that is. It can be figured at 4X, 8x, and 12x if I remember correctly but like I said, I forget what the formula is to do that.

When working for Turners in Culver City many moons ago (the 80's), we found that most low and mid range optics change POA when changing powers.

The best thing to do is sight in at the highest power as that is where a shift in POA would be the most critical.

We found this out when a special optical machine was brought in that measured POA changes. We tested the scopes to see what happened when power was changed. The crosshairs would wander around the grid as the powers went from low to high and back.

The worse back then was Bushnell and I think Weaver.

Most of the really high end scopes were very consistent and had the least change or no change at all.

The best were: Ziess, Kahles, Swarovski, Schmidt and Bender, and Hensholdt.

Middle of the pact were Leupold and I believe Redfield.

Nikon was not making scopes then or at least we didn't carry them.
