Default Distance/Accuracy

How far can you shoot the 18" M&P10 and hit a target? This video inspired me to choose this particular rifle. Somewhere in the video he said 700 yards was a long distance to shoot a semi auto. Has anyone ever shot further or is 700 yards approximately the comfort zone to shoot?

I’ve shot mine several times out to 600 yards on 12” steel plates. I’ve not yet tried to take it further but I don’t see why it wouldn’t hit regularly to at least 800. That’s with either Federal 168s or Hornady 155s. I’ve got some Hornady 178s I’ve not loaded yet.

I have the M&P 10 Sport. I'm no long distance shooter, but I did manage to put five out of seven on a 12"x12" paper target at 300 yards, which, for an old f*rt like me, I thought was...terrific! Federal 168 "high-priced" ammo, and a 1x4 scope. Hope to have a 1x8 scope soon.

I have to get out to one of those areas where i can "try" to shoot a few hundred yards. I have easy access to 2 indoor ranges which ok i guess for now. Wish i can find like 3000 rounds by a trash can that someone was going to throw out and didnt need anymore

Erik,

I don't have an AR10 platform rifle, but I do shoot thousand yard matches with an M1A and my bolt guns, and I am working on a thousand yard 223 round. I shoot the NRA long range bullseye matches. I typically shoot 1.5 minute of angle groups (15") with these rifles (308, 30-06, & 7mm Rem Mag). At Camp Perry I have seen a number of military shooters using the Mk 110 (an AR10) at a thousand, so it is capable. You do need to insure that you have enough barrel to keep the bullet more than marginally supersonic at a thousand in order to get good groups.

One of these days I need to try long distance (means over 100 yards) on my place. Even though I live in the country, the property is all hills and valleys which makes it challenging to shoot and not annoy the natives LOL. Best 5 round, 100 yard groups with handloads have been 0.562" and that's with Hornady 150 FMJ's! Great rifle - much under appreciated by the masses.
