Default My M&P10 does not like Federal Gold Medal 168

Hi;

I have a completely stock M&P-10 and have put a total of about 80 rounds through it. I tried many different types of .308 ... a couple different Hornadays, Fusion, Federal Power Shok; most of them being 168 grain since I had read that 168 grain seem to give the best groupings with the M&P10. When I picked up and shot some Federal Gold Medal 168 grain I started to get failure to feeds about every other few rounds. Went back to the other ammo no problem. I use the PMag 20s gen 3 so I doubt it is a mag issue. Even had a gun smith look my bolt assy and receiver over and it looked fine to him.

Obviously my rifle is allergic to the Gold Medal. Was curious if I'm the lone ranger or if anyone else has had this issue?

Heh!, Heh!, Heh!, you're in good shape my friend, my Wilson Tactical Hunter loves everything, and I do have an adjustable gas block if it didn't??

But back to your concern, if your rifle lays Federal Gold Medal 168 gr one on top of the other, and nothing else even comes close??? then you might have an issue, shoot any and everything, (except that steel case krap), in your M&P 10, I would try 10 round P-Mags to start, and to be honest at 80 rounds your rifle isn't beginning to be broken in...

I would find what it groups best with and functions 100% if you are using it as a defensive weapon? Otherwise, run another 200 or so rounds through it, and save those Federals for when it is slicked up a little...

you are on the road to success my friend, and slather your BCG down with lube, run it wet, 308 ar's respond well to lots of lube!

Most important to remember is "your milage may vary?"

Default

sometimes if I have a rare feeding issue I just spray a little Rem Oil into the bolt assembly. My 10 likes more lube than the MP15 VTAC. And I shoot 1/2 moa out to 200 yards, so far the farthest I have shot it.

It goes without saying that DPMS pattern rifles may be a little finicky with ammo and magazines, my best group to date has been with some Winchester 150gr ammo?? I shot that, it opened up the group size, (all me opening it up by the way)... so I switched to Hornady 150grs, got a little better and quit...

then I decided to fire 3 more Winchester's, I had two in 3/8"s and the first round out about 1 3/4"s... so, I was shocked, tickled pink when I walked the 100+ yds down to my target, lol.

sign up to 308AR.com for lots of good info on making your 308 AR run up to spec, "warning, do not call your rifle an AR10, only Armalite gets that moniker", LOL..

lube your rifle up "loosey goosey", try the 10 rnd Magpul, or any of the Lancer magazines.

Remember 90% of ALL autoloader issues are MAGAZINE or AMMO, add to that the nonsense that "I like to run mine dry", that is nonsense for the big DPMS pattern 308 AR rifle, run it dripping wet until it really is broken in, 200+ rounds and no malfunctions!
