Default M&P 10 availability?

Im looking to either get the 18" MP10 811308 or 811311. Is S&W making these and can they be found?

Im also considering the DD5 V4, but it is $1k+ more

Rifles and parts to build rifles are very limited right now, if you wait a bit, that will improve.. however there are rifles and parts available, but they are at a premium, and if you go to "Gunbroker", you will be competing with every other so and so that thinks he must have the rifle you are bidding on..

Armlist is also a good source to buy from individual's but they have recently gone to a pay to join format, and it run's about 6 bucks a month..

Smith and Wesson, Rock River, and Armalite, build their rifles with proprietary parts, which will not interchange with other brands. In fact parts for the 308 AR can be divided into 3 major groups with variations on these 3 platforms.

AR-10 is Armalite, only Armalite builds an "AR-10".

DPMS Pattern Rifles, the DPMS pattern rifles come in either a "High or Low pattern" rifle, the most common is the High pattern rifle, so handguards must match the receiver as either High or Low pattern.

The Smith and Wesson MP-10 is a DPMS platform rifle, it is a very good rifle and has few problems, but several posters in the past have reported serious issues with their particular rifles.

I suggest you read the M&P 10 thread here on Smith and Wesson Forum, it is dedicated solely to the M&P 10, although other members have been very helpful to me, although I ended up with a different brand 308 AR..

I would also suggest you join 308 AR Forum, they are very knowledgeable and very helpful, a little colorful, but very nice generous guys that love the 308 AR...

I ended up with a particular brand because I wanted a billet receiver and no forward assist, I've been very happy with my rifle and it weighs around 7.5 lbs without mounts and scope..

Some 308 AR's are very heavy, especially with a longer barrel, I went with an 18" barrel and a carbine stock, its very handy, but it is solid, and as I said, weight and balance are very important.

If you are having difficulty, I would suggest calling Smith and Wesson and enquiring as to availability, and which stocking dealers might actually have them in stock and ship it to your FFL.

Feel free to PM me with any questions, I'm also Billy Magg on 308ARforum and Texas Hunting Forum which I joined because I built a 300 HAM'R on a small frame...

One final thought, Armalite was the original AR-10, it would use the M-14 mag with a few mods, the B pattern is completely different, and uses newer style mags..

Most DPMS rifles will run with P-Mags, Lancer Mags, and SR-25 pattern Mags... and if you intend to modify your rifle down the road, you will need to make sure that the rifle you buy will take those mods:

There is NO 308 AR milspec, as their is with the AR-15, do your research! sorry for the book, but I don't want someone who want's a 308 AR platform rifle to have to learn the hard way..

I am very happy with my rifle, and I really enjoy shooting it much more than the 5.56/.223 simply because I can actually see what I'm hitting on my range.

I did also build a small frame 300 HAM'R as it is so much handier to carry around the farm.. and in .30 cal...

I looked on our For Sale section and it seems we do not have a single M&P 10 listed for sale.

We do have a wanted thread, but I believe you need 5 or so posts, maybe 10 to place a wanted ad??

Gunbroker has at least a dozen M&P 10's currently listed between 1200 or so, to a buy it now at 1599... they also have some OEM magazines at 25 to 35 dollars..

So knock yourself out, if you buy a new Smith and Wesson they will fix any issues you have as long as you follow their warranty policy's, its really hard to beat, for what its worth, I paid considerably more for my high end billet rifle, and I'm pretty sure the Smith and Wesson will probably shoot 1 MOA with ammo it likes.

Hey, I'm brand new to this Forum as of TODAY(01-27-2021). I might have some info that may be of help. I also have been looking for the S&W M&P 10 model # 811308 for over 5 months. Finally was able to locate one via Wiki Arms.com via Hinterland Outfitters.I'm not saying it was the cheapest price, but at least I was finally able to get one. Also, thru my internet researching ( via You Tube and some videos) I discovered that it appears that the S&W M&P 10 doesn't seem to particularly like .308 ammo in grains of 165 or less .Most favorable results have been with higher grains above 165 and up.Also, a lot of the user videos seemed to come to the conclusion that the S&W M&P 10 doesn't seem to like the Federal .308 ammo. Now don't quote me on that, but I,ve seen several You Tube videos that different shooters were having the same problems with Federal .308 ammo. I'm not knocking Federal ammo,Federal makes some really great Ammo, just seems S&W M&P 10 doesn't like it much. Some of you may not have had any issues with it ? Just what I've come across so far. Hope this helps someone.Later,Kuntry Patriot

Comparing Federal Gold Medal 168gr SMK to Remington 168 SMK Premier Match, both my M&P10 and my Mossberg MVP Patrol shoot the Remington better. Of course, with the bankruptcy of Remington and the buy out of the different divisions by other companies, that may no longer be a valid comparison. Looking at Remington Ammunition's website, that particular brand of round is no longer listed.

The ArmaLite AR-10B uses modified M-14 magazines. The AR-10A uses the more .commonly available SR-25/Magpul design magazines. I have both and I prefer my old school AR-10B “Infantry Model” rifle.

If you can't find either of the M&P10s that you are wanting, you may want to consider an M1A.
I recently sold a NIB M&P10 (311308)

If you decided to go with an M1A, if I remember correctly, the Armalite AR10 uses the same magazine. As a side note, the Mossberg MVP 7.62 chambered rifles can use that magazine as well as the magazines the M&P10. If you are looking for a bolt action rifle to round out the collection.
