Default Charging Handle

Anyone have a consensus yet, on using the Radian Raptor charging handle with a M&P10? I have read reviews where it works for some users as a drop in function with no issues and others have had to modify it to fit and function in the M&P10. Anyone know why it would work for some and not others? Were there changes made at one time to the designs of either the handle or the gun?

S&W tells me the stock charging handle is proprietary and they are not aware of any aftermarket charging handles that will work. Raidan Weapons told me the same thing and that the Raptor charging handle will not fit the M&P10. If the Raptor does indeed not work with the M&P10, does anyone have a suggestions for a aftermarket charging handle that will fit and function in the M&P10? This platform is still new to me so at this point I am rather confused. Thanks for any help and or clarification.

I would tend to listen t the 'Pros' on this one....meaning the S&W and Radian folks. There's nothing wrong with the stock CH, so why do you want to change? Lefty?

I used an aftermarket charging handle on mine with no problem. BCM, I think. I needed a large lever to clear the eye piece of the scope.

Just something I was looking to customize a bit. I am going to put a scope on it at some point here and was thinking a little bit wider handle with some added grip might be a nice touch. Like you said though there hasn’t really been anything wrong with the stock charging handle. I just didn’t understand how the manufactures are saying it doesn’t fit and yet there lots of reviews that say the Raptor fits the M&P10with no issues and then on the same make of gun others will say they had to modify it to make it work.

Thanks for the info. I will look into this one as well. Though like the Raptor I see mixed online reviews on the BCG as well. One review will say drop in fit and then the next will say it needed to modified some to make it work.

You could always install a 'Tactical Latch' on the sock CH. like a Badger Ordnance, etc. It'll make it easier to manipulate the CH with a scope, and a lot cheaper than buying an aftermarket CH that may, or, may not work.

The extended latch is something I will definitely be doing. I was looking at a few different options to choose from. I still may try a new charging handle at some point as well but the extend latch

A raptor charing handle will fit the M&P10.

BUT if you have an older M&P10, you need to remove some material on the charing handle.

vtsupply have a guide...

Thanks for the link to the guide. I wasn’t aware there was anything out there with pics. I did end up picking up a Raptor this week online. I installed and it and it dropped right in and seems to run fine. I haven’t shot it with it yet but did cycle several mags of ammo through it for testing with no issues. I purchased my M&P 10 the summer of 2020 new in the box, so it is a newer production I assume. I did file off the step on the top of the charging handle as some had mentioned doing in other posts I saw about using the Raptor with the M&P10. It didn’t seem like I would have needed to, but I decided to anyways since the factory charging handle is flat across the top and didn’t have the step. I will have to check for the step in the trough leading to the hole as I didn’t take notice to that or see it mentioned about filing that area down. Thanks again.
