Howdy all. Looking into a red dot for my AR (sorry it's not a M&P). Thinking about an Eotech. The 512 seems to be the most common, but what other models have you guys used. Pro's? Con's? Thanks.

I am looking at the EXPS2. The "E" series has a integral detachable mount, side buttons (if you intend to use a magnifier), and it sits 7mm higher to allow lower 1/3 co-witness. The XPS2 is basically the same without a mount, back buttons, and sits lower for absolute co-witness. The similar series that ends in a "3" allows night vision - which I would never use. My problem with the EoTech is that the projected reticle just didn't look very sharp - and I looked at 2 of them. I have cheap red dots that are much sharper. What to do???

The brighter you run the reticle, the "fuzzier" the image. I use the brightness setting that is the lowest for appropriate conditions and have never encountered a problem with achieving a good sighting picture.

If you want to shoot beyond 300 yards, you might want to look at the XPS2-2. It has a center dot for 0-300 yards, and a second dot for 500 yards. There are a couple other similar models; EXPS2-2, XPS3-2, XPS3-4....

Also, if you ever think you might want night vision, there are only a couple models that are NVS compatible. Make sure to do your research.

If you just want a RDS, the 512 is fine, and it's the cheapest EOTech.

The eotechs with batteries parallel to the bore are suscepible to problems with the battery contacts being damaged by the batteries during recoil. The ones with batteries perpendicular tomthe bore seem to be more durable/reliable.

And watch out for counterfeits, I was just shown a letter from eotech claiming someone out there is making clones the resemble eotechs pretty closely....

This XPS2-0 has been through several thousand rounds on my FNH SLP Mark1 12 gauge. I'm sure it would stand up to the recoil of an AR, regardless of caliber.

I have used the EOTech XPS2 for over a year with no problems. It is the smallest of the EOTechs, and is simple to use. I have taken it off of my rile many times when using my scope, and when I remount it on the rail it is still Zeroed.

Bought mine at Midway when I had a discount coupon...paid just a bit over 400. It does a perfect cowitness with my iron sights.
