Default Magpul MS2 sling - single mount??

Just finished a Carbine class here in AZ yesterday, tactical instructors have gone to single point mounts at the rear of the upper, bottom of the tube. Anybody figured something out for the 15-22?

I'm interested in what "school" thinks single point slings are good. They sure don't work for me!

Try running across the range with one and your carbine flopping everywhere.

Every class I have taken, single point slings were the norm and were quite useful.

Everyone knows your rifle will flop around if you don't keep it from do so. The purpose of the single point sling is accessability. Try coming up on target with a rifle slung over your shoulder instead of right in front of you or mucking around with a 3 point sling and straps everywhere.

I think alot of it comes down to preference, and how you adjust the 3-point. me personally, i prefer a 3-point, but I also know how to adjust it correctly, for me, which is paramount with any type of sling.

Wink

The Magpul sling functions as a single point but has a clip mount that quickly converts the sling to a two point if you need to go hands on and snug the gun up. Magpul and a few others use that design and it works fairly well. Sling systems are trendy like shooting stances. What was cool yesterday is not tacticool today. You gotta stay in fashion if you want to roll with the cool crowd.

Several companies make clamp on rear sling mounts that clamp to the extension tube at the base of the upper receiver. How well they will work with metal against plastic is the question.

lol, as I was reading this, I couldnt help but think back to that movie with Billy Crystal, and Gregory Hines (I think) and the goofy cop-pistol stance that has them pretty much doing a split while shooting. good stuff...

Isn't there a way to just use the sling mount that's on the mp15-22? I like one point slings but, don't feel like the extra cost to just sling up.

I gotta visit one of these classes and observe fast movement with their carbines slung with single point slings and both hands engaged in other tasks such as a sidearm -- no hands on the weapon. Fast roping and repelling (which I doubt they do) would also be interesting.

Not sure what's "trendy" in shooting positions other presenting the front plate to the target. Body armor of not, bladeing is asking for a shot thru both lungs rather than one.

Lots of sling methods. Many seem to be designed simply to sell slings.

I use that on mine and it works great. It will prevent the stock from collapsing into the shortest locking position.

Notice it does not fit flush and that the stock cannot collapse all the way

Where the lower is molded into the buffer tube it is not flat there.
