I have a set of Crimson Trace grips on my Beretta 92. It's my home defense gun. Don't need to look cool, but when I can put a group the size of a quarter at 15 yards, hitting what I am trying to hit, while shooting from the hip, with iron sights, I'll reconsider.

kbm,

did you consider the Lasermax guide rod system when you was looking into lasers? I also have a 92FS for home defense and I've been kicking around the guide rod laser, but man the price... ouch! And it's not green... After using a Viridian 5XL on my Mom's Hubbies Springfield XD-M it's like heaven! And you can not miss.... I took a target out at the range out to 40' and said "Ok I am going to shoot the #5, not the #5 ring, but the actual digit" Bang... #5 gone off the target!

I have one on my 340PD pocket gun because it (rather, I) need lots of help. I have a laser/light combo on my Glock 21 "bump-in-the-night" house gun. In general, I'd say they are a crutch. Sometimes having a crutch or two is helpful, like when you have a broken leg, but you wouldn't walk around on them all the time. As for the vast majority of my guns, I don't have or want a laser on them.

I have a Streamlite zeroed in at 15 yrds on my M&P 9 Pro for things that go bump in the night. Nice bright lite and a red dot for their attention. I don't normally rely on the light for anything else but in home and around the house.

I agree about the crutch principal. My issue is at the range, once I get out past 25/30' I can't see much with my eye balls.... I can see enough that I could hit body mass, but not accurately like I can at 10-25'... This of course could be remedied with a new prescription....

I have mine to look cool. Nothing like one upping that burglar at 2 in the morning. He will hang his head in shame when he sees my lil red dot on his chest. Sad thing is he will never see how cool I am w/ that flashlight in his eyes.

Nope. I don't want to put something inside the gun. That could affect function, and the laser diode will definetely get dirty since it's right under the muzzle.

As for the "crutch" comments, I couldn't disagree more. Real shootings aren't Weaver stance and using iron sights. You will be running, ducking, and turning as you fire. Put the dot on the target and it will get hit. Now, I know trigger control is more important, but even if you jerk the trigger, the bullet will hit what you are pointing at. Maybe two or three inches off, but it will still be center mass. If you do get to cover, you can expose far less of yourself by using a laser sight.

And I have been shooting for years. I know how to use my irons, but the laser is anything but a crutch. I agree a new shooter should learn the fundamentals first, though.

Anybody notice this is the long gun forum?
I think he was asking for another 'cool tool' for the 15-22.
Not really looking for the benefits of a laser sight.

I've used CT lasergrips since 03' on my issued handguns down range (M9, M1911A1 and SIG 226) along with a VFG model on my M4. I have my own CT grip on my personal 1911 at the house.

Back in 03' in Baghdad used to drive an unarmored pickup with just me and another guy thru some bad neighborhoods. As the driver you can not look at sights while driving but stick the .45 out the window, lase and you'll be on target (same as flying in helos or backseat in a fast moving vehicle). Have you ever tried to clear under tables, behind couches without exposing yourself? You can extend the weapon out, lase without exposure from behind cover while taking fire. What about clearing an attic with a mirror before you stick you head thru? I believe in aimed fire but, aimed fire alone is not always with iron sights. Military runs IR lasers on all weapons systems at night along with night vision devices. Your just using a visable laser. Have you ever used a scope or red dot? Its just another sighting tool. Learn the advantages and disadvantages with every tool in your tool box and pick the best tool for the job at the time. I also do standing 100m shots with my Beretta at night with first round hits (still have to apply fundmentals of stance, sight picture, breathing and trigger control)

Actually, I'm not so thrilled with the way my rifle looks with a laser on it. You tell me.

Not that one for sure... Put one of the more tacti-cool looking green dots on it, or a PEQ

Actually, I use that laser to piss-off one of the guys on the every Friday indoor gathering. He paid a bunch of bucks for Crimson Trace laser grips on a S&W 617 (he's gotta have close to a $grand into it all together) while my sub $200 22a and $19.99 BSA laser does much better. Gotta be there to enjoy the humor of it.

I have a laser on my 15-22 and find it a neat toy. I don't like them on my defensive weapons and do consider them a crutch for many new or bad shooters.

Holo and rear BUIS are on a riser. Some have said that this is too fragle. Might be for full time serious work but for home defense, etc. it works for me.

I've got the CT 305s on my 642 but I don't have them to look cool. I wear my cap backwards and my pants dragging the ground for that.

I only use a laser on my 15-22 since my ccw and HD gun i always leave stock as they are "work" guns. This is my "play" gun and the laser is alot more fun than most would think.

If you look at my gun its set up like this.
Scope sighted in at 75' for now until spring and i can go further out.
Red dot is sighted at 50' as thats the max my eyes can see at 1x
The laser is sighted in at 30' for up close blasting.
Why i say that is i can put the laser on and focus on the target only and just pull the trigger and i get much more accurate rapid fire that way.
Rapid fire at 30' threw the red dot im alot further off target alot.
So yes i like it and will keep it and its a blast to use, I may even swap to a green one soon also.
But as a serious tool i dont have much use for one as its adds one other thing i need to worry about in a stressfull situation.
This is all personal preferance, Im not telling anyone they should or should not use one on a gun they carry or work with.
