Default What replacement stock for a M&P 15 OR

I was looking at the Choate 5-position Assy in the Midway catalog (836-409), does anyone have this? How do you like it, Choate in general.

I really like the storage compartment idea it has.

What tool(s) would I need to do the 100% swap - pulling the stock buffer tube off the rifle and putting this whole unit on?

I bought a vertical grip from Ergo that mounted right on the stock handguard and bought a 10deg offset light mount for the front gas block rail (streamlight going there) and already have the RX30 mounted.

I'll have to do pics once the parts arrive.

the stock wrench is needed.

I changed my ORC (non-adjustable) to a Tapco adjustable stock (which is the same process).

1. remove rear takedown pin.
2. remove buffer spring
3. loosen castle nut (behind the plate is the rear takedown detent spring and pin, it will come flying out if you are not careful. do not let that happen)
4. unthread stock from upper. (press down on buffer detent...might not be the correct name, while you remove the stock. this will also fly out if you are not careful)

installation is opposite of removal.

I think I got all the steps in there correctly.

here's a good video on the install.

One last thing, the Choate has an buffer tube OD of 1.178".

Will this fit the S&W M&P 15 OR series?

I thought Mil-Spec was 1.14#" - will the Choate fit? ********** NO IT WILL NOT ***********

I just found a pic over at AR15.com and they threads are 0.015" off

UPDATE - will post another note when parts are received and have pics.

They do have a Mil-Spec version, just not as a kit, bare stock only - coming my way.

I ordered from Midway USA, DPMS parts; all individual items but ordered.

Still need to do the pics, but the parts are in and installed.

The Choate is very well made, the storage compartments are o-ring sealed and provide a superior cheek weld and moves it up to put my eye in perfect alignment with the RX30.

I ordered, but didn't use the alignment plate, buffer retainer pin/spring combo, buffer spring and buffer.

I hate ordering something just to find out you need something else and have to wait.

I got the stock castle nut off using a pipe wrench - scratched it up, but I had ordered a new one and Midway keeps pushing back the DPMS wrench. I would suggest if you do a swap, buy a new mil-spec castle nut (lock ring) for <$4 and use a pipe wrench to pull the old one. I read way to many stories about breaking, bending the purpose built wrenches.

I just tightened the new one buy hand and used a strap wrench to cinch it up, I'll use the real wrench next month when/if it comes in to verify tightness.

I also put a streamlight TLR-1 on a 10 deg offset block from Daniel Defense and an ERGO grip that mounts directly to the stock forend.
