Classic lines and color! What more could you ask for? Handles definately have a "retro" look.

Nice Smith, rags. I have 2 Colts, an early serial #'d SP-1 and a 6601, no pics though I'd like to get one of those M&P 15's this year, along with a Socom.

Thanks guys! It was a grail gun for years. Actually the grail part was a Colt. S&W didn't make them when the idea to get one was born.
The cool thing about the acquisition was when I finally got the money together, half of it came from me selling my small pittance of S&W stock. That made it fitting! The Colt lost out!!
Great shooter and fun to hold...Wanted "Old School". Similar to the M16's in the Navy I dealt with...but cooler!

And there's no doubt it has cool, in spades!
As someone who has always been a lover of all things AR and a future purchaser I have to ask, have you compared the S&W to other offerings from say Stag, DPMS, Bushmaster etc?
What is the fit and finish like on the S&W? My local shop does not have an M&P15 on the shelves they do have a couple Stag AR's that I've handled and oogled but I would like to hear from an owner how the workmanship is on the Smith.
Thanks!

i HAD a DPMS (luckily a friend wanted it) and the S&W had a better build quality IMO.

I had a S&W M&P flattop..........I also have a Stag.......Many, Many issues with the Smith Jammin up and Locking up with all ammo. The Stag will eat anything I put in it and has NEVER jammed or locked up.
Sold the Smith. My next AR will be another Stag,,,, Smith is still my favorite revolver.......hard to find a better made gun than a Smith N frame........

A cool clean piece to be sure. I have a S&W M&P 15 flat top with the standard front sight, ultra reliable and accurate with all quality ammo, FMJ or softpoint. I have however hung a EoTech 552 and a Thunder Ranch light on it.

I did look at Stag for a long time. Price mainly. For they are all just M4's spec wise. The Stag was cheaper than Colt and BushMaster. DPMS looked ok...
Before I purchased, I had it down to the S&W and BushMaster. They both were the same price ironically at the store where I got it, (the Smith was on sale at that time!), but in the end I got the M&P for the fit, finish, quallity and good rep they had going.
Oh yeah, The barrel!! S&W bought T/C. Some complain that the barrel is "4140" not "4150" steel (which is Mil Spec.) That didn't make any difference to me.
The mags that come with are Magpul and not labeled S&W. I'm sure everyone concidering an AR knows about Magpul...That can't be a bad thing!
Some say they have had issues with their S&W MP15's but I can't attest to that. I have had zero problems with mine. Maybe that is because I've only shot 500 rnds though it up till now. That will cetainly change when the weather breaks!!!
I'm happy with it and would buy another one!! I guess in the end, that's all that matters...
Buy one Brett!
