Default scope

Installing new scope and found tape in side the mounting rings. have not came across this before. Is this a old or new way of mouting. I can see, that it would not let your rings mark up your scope.

I've seen it. Can't remember, but I've probably done it. Old.

I've seen it and heard of it-not a good idea IMO. If everything is done correctly in the first place, there is no need to hedge your bet by doing something like this.

I remember seeing some manufacturers that use some kind of plastic or rubber adheased liners in there rings. I remember reading that it reduces marring of scope tube, reduces recoil sliding scope forward, reduces torque on tube if rings not perfectly alligned. Seems like Burris does this. I also remember seeing something like that in spring piston air gun rings due to their odd recoil pulse. What brand of rings are they?

I don't know what brand. They are off a savage rifle and scope combo.

The last rings I bought (month ago) were burris or leupold and came with a strip of tape to put on each bottom ring. I used them.

Burris is the only company that I'm aware of that makes rings with an "insert" in them.

Most times tape is usd to stop the scope from sliding in the rings from heavy recoil. Other times it is used to true up the alignment on long range rifles. I've never used it. The biggest rifle I have is a 30-06 and the "old skule" Weaver rings seem to have enough bite.

I have a 1993 Tasco AccuDot red dot on my 29-7 44 mag that has the plastic tape. I can see that the scope is not sliding, and probably not scratching.
