Default New M&P15T Owner - quad rail question

Hi Guys!

New to this site, and a happy new owner of a M&P15T - I also have a 15-22, which inspired me to get the bigger bro'

Took the 15T to the range for the first time on Friday - got it sighted in with the iron sights and tried a couple of different brands of ammo (American Tactical (Turkish) 62gr and the Hornady TAP training 55gr (steel case stuff) - zero hiccups in about 300 rounds total, very accurate, very happy with performance

The one question/potential problem I do have - I notice that my quad rail is sitting minutely below my receiver rail, probably by about 1/32 of an inch. It is barely perceptible...but there, nonetheless. I have included a pic to try and show, but its not a good one - will try to take another one when I get a minute and can dig out my good camera. What I was wondering is - is this normal, or should that top quad rail be *perfectly* level with the receiver rail?

Dan

Here is a picture of my 15T. Looks even on mine.

I have noticed there is just a tad bit of play between the lower and upper. I can feel it move just a bit. I also own a M&P15-22and there is no play at all on it. It's feels firm with no movement. Just curious if this is normal? The 15T is my first AR15.

Thanks guys....it does look like mine is a tad low, but there really isn't much in it and doesn't affect the way it shoots....just one of those annoyances that you don't expect with brand new items, ya know? Not sure whether to send it back or not - I'll probably just shoot it for a while and see how much it bothers me in a month or two - if it still does, I'll send it back then.

n3cal - the slight wobble between lowers and uppers is completely normal on AR's. I also have a 15-22 with zero play - I think because it is made out of Polymer they can get a tighter fit. The normal 'cure' is to install an 'accuwedge', but on the M&P15's they don't seem to fit well - I was just playing with a spare the other day, and had to cut the entire base of it off to get the receivers closed together. It cut down the wobble a bit, but not fully.

Quick comment on the wobble....I know its normal but I found it a little annoying as well so instead of an accuwedge, I used a foam ear plug....Slight trimming to allow the pin to fit and seem to do the job great...Cleaned it after the range the other day and the foam plug stayed put and kept shape so there was no problems when going back together again.

Thanks for the reply guys! Where does the foam ear plug go? I'd like to give that a try!

Thanks Dean - yep, same here - I'm just nit picking a bit, the fundamentals of the rifle are sound and as I said I'd say the drop down between the receiver rail and the quad rail is 1/32 of an inch at most. I don't think I would trust (or even want to) mount a scope across the gap even if it were level - so its just a very minor cosmetic issue. I think I might just put a ladder rail cover on it and forget about it!

I'm very much enjoying using this rifle. Not fired a 5.56 since leaving the army 5 years ago, I have solely been using a .308 rifle as a center fire and had gotten completely used to that recoil - dropping down again to 5.56, I'm actually finding it a joy to use....my wallet is, too, with the cost of ammo difference!
