Questions about M&P 15X
I am torn between the 15X and the 15T. I like the fact that the 15X is a little bit lighter than the T version. However, I really want a folding front sight. What I need to know is how difficult it is to install something like a YHM folding front sight/gas block? Are there special tools required? Should I have a gunsmith do the work? Any advice you guys can offer would be great. Thanks.

Hey there.... I have the MP15T... but I prefer the look of the X with the traditional front sight. If you end up getting the 15X and want to trade uppers, I will be happy to do so. I believe the X is a few hundred dollars cheaper than the T, so this will suit both of us. I have almost 1000 rounds - no reloads - through mine.

Or, get the MP-15OR (Optics Ready) version. Add your folding sights (front & rear), and any of the drop-in handguards you like (I went with the Magpul MOE since I wanted simple and wasn't going to mount more than a VFG & light to it)
Just remember, once you start adding things to your AR...
Take care,
Bob S.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I ordered the 15X yesterday. It's on its way at this very moment. I also ordered a YHM folding front sight, and an Aimpoint Comp C3. I can't wait for it all to arrive.

Yesterday was an outstanding day. My M&P 15X, and my Aimpoint Comp C3 both arrived. First I have to offer nothing but praise to CDNN. I ordered the gun on 9/9/10 and it arrived 9/13/10, and they only charged me $15 for shipping. I ordered the Aimpoint the same day from SWFA's ebay site and I am really pleased. My only complaints are that the local gunsmith says it will take him a week to change out the front sight tower, and I need a higher mount than the one supplied with the Aimpoint. Neither one is a big deal. I do have one question. I thought the M&P's shipped with one PMAG? The mag I got was a standard GI mag, and it was in kind of ****** shape. I am kind of wondering if the dealer I had the gun shippped to did a swap on me. Anyone else get something other than a PMAG with their gun? Thanks.

I bought my MP-15OR just before the '08 elections from my local dealer, it came with a black GI style mag.
No big deal - PMags are not expensive if you want them - I have PMags, teflon coated GI's, and 1980's vintage Colt mags - all work great.
Buy ammo - have fun.

Ok. It sounds like this is the standard mag it comes with. I just wanted to make sure this dealer didn't hose me. He wasn't real happy about doing the transfer, but he doesn't carry the M&P in his store, and I wasn't going to pay extra for him to "special order" one. So all is good. I love the gun so far, and I can't wait to get it to the range.

What ever you say......
My M&P15OR came with a 30 round PMAG.
Just looked at the S&W web site.....it shows the "T" with a PMAG in it.

Received a 30rnd PMag with my M&P 15. Bought using Davidson's Gun Genie. When I picked up the rifle at the retailer, it was still in the box completely factory sealed. The retailer did not open, nor did he ask to. For me, that was great. FYI- if you buy any firearm directly from Davidson's.... they warranty it for LIFE!!! Check out their warranty. PS: the only downside is that their retailers don't seem to care for you purchasing directly from their supplier.
