My MOE came in a hard (well, actually, it was semi-hard) plastic foam-lined case that was just barely big enough for the rifle, and the latches wouldn't stay closed. It's a pretty cheap case, and I had to go out and buy a better one - $19 from Academy.

I got a soft case made by Uncle Mikes that works great with M&P 15-22 (and also with AR 15, of course). It has 5 mag pouches, a large outside pocket, good handles and a sling strap, all for $28.99 from OpticsPlanet.com:

Uncle Mike's Law Enforcement Tactical rifle case. 52121, 52141. Uncle Mike's Gun Storage.

Anybody seen a better value?

My M&P15OR came in the "not too high quality", "semi-hard" (I like that) black plastic case. The rifle was quite nice:-)
Which was a little surprising as my really cheap 22A pistol came in a very nice blue case (admittedly, much smaller, but it is a nice box).

Once home, the cases get put up, never to be used again (unless I sell the gun, which rarely happens). Guns go into the safe, until it's time to "go", then they go into soft cases. We can get LOTS more guns in the trunk when they are in soft cases.

Sorry if I'm dense (I am at times) but I'm not understanding the desired direction of this thread. Sadly that didn't stop me from responding.
Guess I just wanted to say, black case was disappointing but I don't care. I don't use them. If they used a nicer case, I'd have to pay more to have a nicer case sitting above my garage unused. Our S&W M&P15-22 came in a cardboard box. I'm good with that as long as the rifle arrives in perfect condition.

The semi-rigid, not quite hard plastic case mine came in was a disappointment also.
You can probably get the same/similar even bettercase at Academy or any of the big catalog stores.

for what it is worth I prefer to use a soft case that has some pockets for mags and accessories.

In my experience hard cases are a pain in the neck unless they are truly needed because you won't need the rifle quickly but you do need to protect it.

Agree with others about the case. Would have been nice to have an extra case but I tossed this one. Cardboard would have been fine with me as well. Like the rifle!!!

I guess I took it as, "What kind of a case is it, because it certianly isn't well designed for an AR15"?!!!

Mine just barely fits with a red dot right now, if I position the gun towards the right hand side of the case. That does leave room for several magazine in front of the gun, though. I'm not sure what will happen when I put ttaller rings on the red dot. My latches are fine, I thought.

comes in flimsy plastic case with cheep latches. Ditched it in favor of a double Pillarlock case. Room for both my 15 and 15-22 with mounted optics and still plenty room left over for 8 mags extra optics. Here is an older pic with my 15-22 and my Ruger Archangel conversion.
Great case!!!

Mine came in a cheap plastic case, which I would have been fine with using if it weren't twice as long as the rifle. I don't have that much storage space.

I picked up an NCStar brand tactical rifle case from Amazon for $17 (plus shipping). For my M&P15-22 it works fine and has 5 external magazine pouches as well.

Amazon.com: Gun Case (36"L X 13"H)/Black: Sports & Outdoors

Case construction seems solid enough and there is enough padding to protect the rifle from minor bumps.

Mine came in a very long, plastic and cheaply built semi-hard case. I'll replace it quickly with a soft case. Just too big

Bought this one on Amazon last week, still waiting for it though. Paid a total of 89.00 - no tax, no shipping. Not bad for something that I will build on. Was looking for a nice range/bug out bag that can be expanded, especially with the MOLLE system. For what you get with this bag/case... 89.00 seemed like a deal.

Mine came in a cardboard box! Am I missing something, does it come with a cheap plastic case? I have since bought a soft case.

My M&P15OR came in a cardboard box also. Pretty cheap for such an expensive firearm.

I want a decent case for it though. Any recommendations?

Need more info. Do you want hard or soft, about how much do you want to spend, just for the one rifle or...? etc

Amazon and Optics Planet have been good to me for buying gun cases. More options to "look" at plus lots of reviews, good 30 day return policy if, since it's online, it's not exactly what you thought it was going to be.

Nearly three years ago when this thread was started, the guns came in plastic cases.

Now most guns seem to be in cardboard boxes.

My Sport arrived in a cardboard box. Soon after I got a discreet bag for it. I wanted something that wasn't so telling as to it's contents. It's smaller so you have to separate the upper from the lower. Somewhere else in the forum someone had gotten a hard case that looked like a violin case but I can't find the thread. It also had to have the rifle in two parts.

My M&P 15 TS came in cardboard box lined with an ultra thin layer of foam (not sure why they even bothered it is so thin). My dad's Sig M400 came in a slightly nicer cardboard box lined with styrofoam cut to the shape of the rifle (a very small step up from Smith & Wesson). Neither one seemed very sturdy for $1000+ rifles though when you consider the cases the M&P pistols or Glocks come in at half the price.

We both use Midway tactical rifle cases - the 43" versions - which are nice. I also have a 36" version for my M&P 15-22 which is snug even with the buttstock completely collapsed but it works.

I purchased the BULLDOG Extreme Tactical 35" case from Optics Planet for my M&P 15-22 a couple yrs. back for $26 and Love It. Four outside mag pouches plus one lg. zippered pocket for incidentals. It also states that it floats! I also purchased the same case for my recent AR build, both cases have an adjustable shoulder sling. IMHO both cases are extremely well constructed and should last quite awhile. Side note: Haven't subjected either case to the float test yet!

Yes, they do. I recently purchased a Beretta A300 Outlander 12 gauge for my son. I realize that this is the bottom end of Beretta semi autos, but I expected the hard plastic take down case...nope, cardboard box, no foam.

I use a hard case for travel situations, but for the range it's not as practical as a 42" soft case. I can carry two rifles, mags, ammo, a couple pistols, and more in my soft case. No way I could fit that much in a hard case.

It comes with a generic hard case but immediately swapped it out for a Amazon.com: Condor 26 Transporter Gun Bag, Black: Sports & Outdoors@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41BSN%2Bz-jOL.@@AMEPARAM@@41BSN%2Bz-jOL discrete case. I have to break it down before packing but I feel less eyeballs on me when putting my rifles in the car now.
