The buffer tube on a MP15OR is milspec. I recently replaced my stock and forearm/hand guards with Magpul MOE furniture.

I want to swap mine out for a CTR stock as well, can anybody tell me if mine is mil-spec or commercial from my pics? From what I can tell off of the magpul website, mine is mil-spec.It looks to me like the commercial version is slanted at the rear and mine is not.Any help would be appreciated.

The safest bet it so measure it....that way you don't have to rely on visual clues.

A mil-spec tube will measure right at 1.150" OD. A commercial tube is right at 1.170".

It looks to be a mil-spec, but like arizona98tj said the safest bet would be to measure it. If you bought your gun off the rack fully assembled, you can sometimes tell by the manufacturer. (However, with that said, I have noticed that some manufacturers offer both milspec and commerical buffer tubes on their rifles.) Who is the manufacturer? Usually the commercial tubes are slanted (at least the ones I have seen in person), but I am not sure if that is always the case. If your rifle is a factory complete Smith & Wesson it should be milspec.

My MP15 OR definitely had a commercial buffer tube.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the threads are the SAME diameter, and pitch, so you can replace the ENTIRE unit with a Mil-Spec stock, and buffer tube.

The threaded portion of all receivers are the same. Only the tubes are different, as shown above.

That's interesting, as I have a complete MP15 A and MP15 0R, along with two Smith and Wesson lowers complete with buttstocks and all 4 have milspec buffer tubes/receiver extensions.

And yes, you can change out a commercial buffer tube for a milspec and vice versa.
