Default WoW! Just ... WoW! I got lucky :)

This past weekend my wife happened to visit an estate sale with a girlfriend. The deceased was a retired law enforcement officer. About 1 PM my phone rings and my wife says "You have to get over here now, there is some stuff you want to look at, all sorts of gun stuff."

The place is about 20 minutes away, so I get cleaned up a little and proceed to the estate sale. What I see is just great, but its not on the list for the estate sale, I ask why. I'm told the items were a last minute decision addition as they were originally intended to have been sold separately to a private buyer who backed out of the deal for some reason. There are several rifles and handguns, Remingtons, S&W, Glock's, Sig's, Colt (one Colt M4 carbine model like I already have), a few shotguns - a Mossberg 500 and one Benelli M4 Super 90 with collapsible buttstock for cripes sake!

An assortment of nice scopes, a Leupold, Nikon, Swarovski, Zeiss, but also a Millet 1-4X Designated Marksman Scope. Also a collectors item that I have not seen in years - that old military issue 3x Colt scope that fit on the M-16 carry handle circa Vietnam era. A couple of different red dot scopes, an AimPoint and an EoTech, but also a shocking find of of two ELCAN scopes - a ELCAN SpecterDR 1-4x AND... and a ELCAN SpecterDR 1.5x-6x.

I also find six cases of Black Hills 223 Remington 77 Grain Sierra MatchKing Hollow Point. Also, two cases of Black Hills 175 Gr. .308 Winchester Match Hollow Point (7.62) but strangely enough there is no weapon among the arsenal that is 7.62. I also find three cases of what is marked M855A1 5.56 (looks like a military surplus lot).

Most of the weapons were spoken for already, a few handguns left that didn't interest me. I was a little dissapointed the Benelli was already spoken for, however, I did take the Mossberg 500. Got all the ammo and all the scopes except for the Swarovski which was already spoken for. Got the red dot AimPoint and EOTech along with both ELCAN's.

The SpecterDR 1-4x has obviously been used harshly but works, the SpecterDR 1.5x-6x is brand new and still in the box, does not look like its ever been mounted. The AimPoint and EoTech look very clean and well taken care of and work fine but are used.

Wrote them a check for $3800.00.

Gave the .308 ammo away to a friend who can use it. The AimPoint went to a friend who had been wanting one for a while. The EoTech, not sure what i'm going to do with it right now as I already have EoTechs on my weapons. The Elcans....the 1-4x went to my son for his use, the 1.5x-6x i'm going to put on my M&P 15 in place of the EoTech and try it out

Got a few offers on the other scopes, gonna keep the Mossberg 500.

Has anyone put a 77 grain bullet through the M&P 15 1:9 twist yet?

77gr is a bit heavy for a 1:9 twist... That's better for a 1:7 barrel, and maybe the extreme edge of acceptable for a 1:8 barrel.

Yes, I think so too. I've heard of people using 77 grain in a 1:9 but I think it varys for individual weapons as to the suitability of not. I tend to think it might have some stabilization issues, but then again maybe not.

I haven't tried it yet but the next time I go to the range i'm going to do so. The most i've used in mine so far is a 65 grain and it was fine, no key holeing or anything and accuracy was great being around 1MOA groups at 200yards. I normally use 62 grain though.

If it doesn't work out with the M&P 15 1:9, then I can use the 77 grain in my old colt which has a 1:7.
