IF you mean an actual scope (as opposed to a non magnifying red dot or the like), the front sight will "disappear" when viewed through the magnifying scope.

Otherwise, most red dots and holographic type sights offer mounts to co-witness , either lower third or absolute (in sync with the dot.) You sight in the red dot then adjust the sight to match the zeroed sight.

1-4 powered scopes are ideal for three gun type shooting and good all around units out to about 200 yards or so.

I bought a Vortex Strikefire with the high base for AR 15's. Gives a lower 1/3 co-witness. The Vortex SPARC comes with a base that can be set up for absolute or lower 1/3 co-witness. Both of these are built with AR users in mind.

Other red dots are not set up for AR's with front sight bases, so you may have to buy a riser to get the dot to the height that you want. Don't know anything about Eotech, ACOG or the other high end optics.

Sig Sauer CP1 Prismatic Scope
Is this a pretty good scope, only 3 power but being a sig, you would think it is very good

Thanks, do you have the scopes mounted on smith and wesson mp15 rifles? If so, could you post pictures.

The Troy BUIS actually DO NOT touch the scope, there is clearance between the rear folding sight and the Nikon eyebox.

The rifle is a S&W M&P15 MOE, and the scope fits just as well on my scratch-built AR...

The rear sight is a Troy, and the scope mount is Burris PEPR unit.

I think all the adds will work on your rifle too, save the front folding sight. Mine (with the smaller scope 1-4X20) is Optics ready model, the basic M&P15 before the Sport.

Adds visible are the

Troy FF quad rail (MRF-C)

Troy BUIS F&R

Basic GI M-16 sling (have a Troy 2pt.but prefer the basic one.)

Nikon M-223 and Nikon mount.

Spikes S2-T2 Buffer (good for 5.56 loads)

Tango Down large pistol grip

LOL, it gets addictive, I also have a box full of spares and things like a red dot (Sure fire red/green) Magpul MOE forgrip, rails for it and other assorted gun junk.

Also have the Gieselle SSA-E two stage trigger on order. That and a couple of thousand rounds of 5.56 in various flavors keeps my wife guessing if I've totally lost it!

What kind of shooting will you be doing? What distance? What targets?
What's your budget?

M&P Sport with a Nikon P-223 3-9x on Nikon mounts.

I do target shooting only - 100-400 yds. The front sight is completely, 100% invisible. I'm motivated (somewhat) to remove that front sight - but only due to external appearances. Not because it interferes with the scope.

This setup has worked great for me. I love it. It's a "bullseye machine" as a friend of mine says. Some of my most fun days are spent hitting a steel spinner at 100 yds.

OR

I think it works really well, however I havent spent tons of time really understanding it. I've been focused on getting a really good reload established for it. Once that is totally dialed in I'll do more experimenting with the bdc.

========================================

Before you consider removing the FS, understand that this is a major undertaking. S&W puts these sights/gas blocks on to stay there (forever).

I recently wanted to float my barrel and ended up really butchering the front gas block (M&P15 OR) trying to get the pins out. I had to take my upper to a local gunsmith who cut the block off. The good news is that I free floated the barrel AND upgraded the gas block with a Syrac adjustable one. I have fine tuned my rifle. Both 223 and 556 brass eject in pristine condition. Accuracy has improved. Recoil has decreased greatly. (I am using MagPul Pro BUIS)

I put a Nikon P223 3x-9X scope in a Burris PEPR mount on my Sport and it does a great job for me. But my normal shooting range is limited to 100 yards!

How does the crossfire II work as far as removing the scope and then a little later putting the cross II back on....do you have to re-sight it ?

I have not removed it since mounting and zeroing.

The Crossfire, or any scope for that matter, is not the factor that matters when re-installing a scope and keeping zero.
That's all about the mount. Any half decent mount when re-installed in the same position will be pretty close, slight changes maybe depending on how tight you tighten it each time.

My Crossfire II in a generic QD mount is consistent enough for me when re-installing it.

Default P223 3X32 scope

I have a M&P 15 Sport and I put the Millett One Piece Mount from Walley World on it with The Nikon P223 3X32 Scope. It works out great. Leave the Sport just like it is.....Everything fits on it without taking anything off.

It's not the sight but the mount and the consistency in reinstalling the mount that makes the difference. A picatinnny rail helps some with that but the rings or mount have to be put back on exactly how you took it off. That is why there are numbers on a rail in a lot of instances. Also, mounting it so the screws or pins are placed to the front of the slots or to the rear makes a difference as well. It is often recommended to make sure the screws/pins are pushed against the front of the slots to make sure the mount is the same every time and prevent the possibility of the optic from shifting due to recoil.
