Hobie...I have been wanting to get one for a few years and I finally had to finance the purchase of one but it shipped today and I am so ready. I had surgery on my left leg last week and I told the chief financial officer, that it didnt matter when it gets here, even if I have to use my walker, I am headed to the range.

Default Best gun I've ever bought

I absolutely love my Sporter! Other than putting a quad rail from GMG, bi-pod, and a Leupold scope, I'm pleased with the way it is. Oh, forgot the dreaded muzzle brake which is made by our own Tacticool.

I am so looking forward to getting back out to the range!

I picked up a M&P Sport at the local gun show Saturday for $629. I have not had a chance to get to the range yet, but hopefully next weekend. I already have an M&P9, as well as a model 66-2, 18-3, and 10-5. One big happy family! I have ordered some extra magazines and a soft case already, I think a sling will be my next purchase.

With the range on that M-15 ..... Why would you need a red dot... You won't be able to see the dot at 800 meters down range anyway...

Default Sport

I picked mine up this afternoon on the way home from work.

I resisted the AR thing up to now but being a Smith nut and with the price so low I finally gave in. Haven't shot an AR but once or twice since about 40 years ago in the service.

One thing I noticed right away (and who wouldn't) is how light the darn thing is. Like compared to the Garand I was shooting yesterday, which was a lot of fun pinging steel at 200 and 300 yards but that thing sure is heavy offhand (Most all my hits by the way came from the bench!)

I'm looking forward to getting back to the range and breaking my new Sport in. The Garand, after a thorough cleaning, will probably now get a long rest in the gun safe.

I added a sling and a NcSTAR carry handle to mine. I like the sight better in the carry handle because I don't have to use the front sight for elevation. The carry handle sight has both elevation and windage on it. I may or may not add a scope

GMG(http://www.natchezss.com/product.cfm...N=44251682)out of stock at the moment makes a what seems to me a pretty quad rail handguard for a very good price. I put one on my sport and it bolted right up. I'd try shooting with the stock grip and stock before you buy anything.
Here's a pic of my current set-up:

BTW, I've since moved the bi-pod back as I had it sitting way too far forward on the rail.

Welcome to a fellow NY'er, just make sure you know our Sports are a tad different from the rest. The buffer tube is commercial not milspec, extra long and pinned in place. In you want it shorter you will basically have to get a whole new tube and re-pin it.

As for grips and handguards those are the same and you can order them just about anywhere. Any standard AR stuff will fit, I like Magpul stuff and but some don't. Check out ebay, it's all over the place. Just make sure you get a carbine size for the handguard.

A bit of experience with stripper clips and the spoon. You can squish the spoon with pliers to get a better fit on the magazines. And, when you reload the stripper clips, you can also squeeze them if they feel too loose on the sides.
It makes them work much more positively.

Had been searching for my first AR. Finally settled on the Sporter but no one had them. Then out of the blue I checked on line and at Gunbuyer.com they had them for $599 including tax (cause they and I were in Florida) and I have a friend with ffl who charges me $20 for the transfer fee.

Got it last week and Took my MP 15 to the range for the first time today.

To all the AR snobs, too bad you spent $800 plus on yours. Lol

Also have a 15-22. That gun can eat out the bullseye at 50 yards as fast as I can pull the trigger, shooting from a table but not in a stand. Love it too.
