Affordable red dot options
I installed a truglo 30mm red dot with a riser which does not look ideal. I plan to return it and use the stock sights until I find something better. Anyone have suggestions for an affordable red dot to mount on my Sport? Thanks!

+1 on the Vortexx. Unless you have the money to burn, or you're someone who uses these for a livng (and I'm pretty sure some PD's use the Vortexx), why spend three times the price on an Aimpoint? I have a Voretxx and it has been rock solid reliable, and doesn't "feel" like a cheao clone.

If you decide on the Vortex, get the red only version. Red/green is not as bright and can be marginally bright in sunlight.
Good sight otherwise.
You might also consider one of the 1-4 scopes popular for 3 gun.

Again, Thanks much for the replies! I really like the looks of the Vortex and the fact that many of you have actually tried it.
According to the Vortex website, the optic includes scope rings that allow for co-witness with the A2 front sight. Please correct me if I'm wrong because that's exactly what I want to to do. Then I'll be shopping for a flip up rear BUIS?

I just ordered the Vortex red dot. I'll post up some pics after it arrives and I get it mounted. Now searching for a sensible flip up rear sight.

The only drawback on the Vortex Sparc and Strikefire red dots (I own 2 of them) is that they are Nightvision compatible and the NV button, if depressed inadvertently, can lead you to believe your battery is dead or the optic has failed. Stay away from that button.....it's right next to all the other buttons. If you don't see your dot, press the NV button to see if it was activated. Other than that, they are great.

Never too late, however I won't be using this rifle on the job and can't afford to mount an EOtech on my Sport. Someday I'd love have the best.

Thanks,

Yes, specify the AR mount (higher for absolute co witness) it IS included. You can order from either Primary Arms or Optics Planet but PA is the better choice IMHO. Optics planet can be flaky about having things "in stock" even when the site says they do. Their follow up communications lack sometimes. Primary Arms is always responsive and goes out of their way to help.

I bought from opticsplanet.com. Paid 149 and free shipping. They shipped fast. You get the option of high mount for co-witness with A2 front sight or a low mount which vortex suggests if you have carry handle. The high mount is sturdy. It also comes with a 2x magnifier which I have not tried yet.

Vortex has excellent warranty and customer service.
I should've checked out PA. I've heard several good things about them.

Price is the same and they ship free at PA too on this. Optics Planet is good too, just usually a bit more on price with more expensive optics and sometimes allow you to order something they know they don't have. Then, they offer a substitute or you wait for a backorder. IF you were counting on something, ordering it from them can delay getting it when someone else may have it in stock had you known. Other than that, dealing with them is OK and they are polite on the phone, just not always accurate, LOL. PA has been superb and they are AR people with lots of expertise and interest . Glad your purchase worked out well, I am currently on backorder at OP with a Nikon scope for my 10/22 that is nearly impossible to find in stock and have been waiting for about a month, even though they never listed it as "backordered" . PA doesn't carry any but AR15 Nikon scopes so I stuck with them because the situation was the same everywhere but have seen complaints on boards about the practice of not telling you when something is out of stock.

I put the Bushnell TR25 on mine. Price was about &90 from Optics Planet. 1X, 3 MOA, apparently very good battery life.
The 15-22 is my sub caliber practice piece. The "big" gun carries a 1.5 X ACOG and I find that the little red dot Bushnell makes for very good practice.

This https://www.primaryarms.com/Vortex_S...sf-br-ar15.htm
Forget the option section, this is with AR cowitness (high) mount.

It matters because rimfire rifles like the 15-22 have much lower recoil forces and can use a less sturdy sight than a rifle shooting 5.56/.223.
Need is very subjective or we would probably all drive Yugos (IF we could keep them running).
The Vortex will be better than anything in the lowest price range and their customer service and very liberal exchange policy actually makes them inexpensive for the long haul, IMHO.

+ one on this statement! My son and I both shot very well with the Vortex yesterday at the range. Now that it's sighted in, hitting pop cans and bottles at 50 yards standing off hand is a breeze. Shooting with both eyes open is liberating too.

Did you have to order any of the 10 dollar high mount options or did it come with what you need for the mp15 sport.
Thanks,

Doug, the Vortex Strikefire can be ordered with the included "high mount" which works perfectly with the Sport. It co-witnesses with the front sight. No need to order a separate mount. I added a Magpul MBUS flip up rear sight which also works great.
I was at a gun show today and saw a new M&P15 Sport for sale, which now includes the MBUS. It was priced at $579.00. What a great deal on an excellent rifle!
Did your Sport come with the MBUS?
I've probably posted too many pictures of this, but it shows clearly how the Vortex looks.

BassPro has a good one for about $50. I have used them on my 22's for couple of years now..the zero holds tight and I'm still on the original battery.

looks like i'm a little late but i've had a PA micro dot for about a year now. originally mounted on my MP15-22, held up nice and easy to zero. i just got the MP15 Sport and mounted the PA micro, 1-2 clicks and it was bullseye at 30 yds. it held its zero thru 100 rnds, single shot, double, triple tap and a mag dump. wow factor... i left it on Sunday afternoon when i 'checked' on her and did some reload practice. Checked on her again today, Tuesday and the micro was still on and bright as ever. I can't afford the high end dots nor the high end rifles. it works for what i need, and i would recommend it.

It did come with a Magpul MBUS rear site. It did not come with the front grip. Did yours come with that or did you buy that and put it on? Looks great. Pick mine up tomorrow and Vortex just was dlvd. Can't wait! Doug

Thumbs up on the MBUS. I added the quad rail and vertical grip as well as a hogue pistol grip. I like the way they feel.
I hope you have a couple days off for the holiday. Black powder therapy is Friday. A new AR with a red dot will be perfect. Congrats on the new rig.

I bought one of Primary Arms M4 style red dots and really like it. It's rugged, runs on one AA battery, has 4 reticles selectable by a knob, and hold it's zero great. There are a number of You Tube video's on different Primary Arms red dot sights. The owners reviews on their red dots is 98% positive from the ones that I read. Would I take it to battle, no there are much better sights for serious work. But for a range gun/plinker they work great. Primary Arms has great customer service if you should ever need it.

I have the Vortex Surefire II with red or green dot on my M&P 15 Sport. It set me back $180 and I've had excellent results with it.

I have the same sight except mine is red dot only. It seems to do very well. No parallax, no losing zero, very visibile in bright sunlight - I like it and I got mine for a good price - $159.

An old thread resurrected.
Today I put a new Vortex StrikeFire II on my S&W Sport II. This is an excellent red dot sight. Very good accuracy.
