Default Scoping 15OR with 3x9 help.

I have a M&P 15OR and want to mount a Leupold 3x9, what is the best set of rings for the money. I would just use rings and if so how tall of rings? Or is it best to use a one piece ring set that is offset toward the front of the gun?

Position the scope for eye relief. That should tell you and yes, most people use a forward canting one piece on an AR. QR is nice also as it allows removal without effecting zero too much if at all. Burris' PEPR is a popular choice under a hundred dollars and the high dollar standard is the LaRue SPR or the SPR-E (extended).

If you just use regular rings and can get propper eye relief with them, height should be selected so the forward glass is clear of the handguard. Higher rings are preferred with red dots, etc. in order to cowitness front sights. With a 3-9 that shouldn't be an issue for you.

I have a Leapold 3-9 Mark AR for my M&P15 OR. It's mounted with a American Defense Recon scope mount. It's not cheap, but I really like it. The Leapold Mark AR has huge eye relief. As mentioned above, you will probably find you want a cantilevered mount.

Here's our 15-22 on the left that just got Magpul-ed for my son's birthday, CMMG .22 LR modified to run S&W 15-22 mags in the middle, and it’s twin in my S&W M&P15OR on the right with AD scope mount.
