Removing quad rail forend

Just bought 15-22, first AR-style rifle. How does one remove the quad rail forend? The outside of the barrel is coated with oil, and I want to clean it. Can't figure out how to remove the spider at the front of the forend, either.

there are little nubs on the spider...push all in and that web will pop right off lol....swab clean from there

That is how I did it, with cleaning rod and a clean rag.

Worked a charm.

Getting the rails off is a whole other story, as a barrel remover is needed.

Inexpensively available from Tacticool22, but I haven't gotten that brave
yet. You do it wrong and the upper/receiver is toast.

A clean exterior barrel is good enough for me!
