Need info on mounting a scope and red dot
I am fixing to mount a 2.5x10x42 monarch scope on my S&W AR15. I want to have it and a small red dot, scope on top, red dot to the side. I am left handed so the red dot will half to mount on the left side of the gun, that way I can rotate the gun to the inside and see the red dot for close shots and back for long. I need to know where to get the parts to mount them on a flat top ar, with red dot to left side, and a good red dot!

Thanks, any suggested scope mount? Or suggested red dot?

You don't exactly explain why you want to do this. Some folks do something similar in some types of 3 gun competition, but their scope is generally of a smaller size and power. That may be a kewl thing for gun games, I wouldn't advise it for more serious purposes.
Using the rail on the top of the receiver is probably your best bet (take the carry handle off if you got one), look for rings that will give you an appropriate height, ~ 1.4 inches to the centerline of the ring. If you get rings made for Picatinny/1913 rails, you could-after sighting each optical system in-simply mount whatever sight you want for the particular purpose at hand. They'll be sufficiently close to point of impact to do that.
Don't know about good red dot, but Aimpoint makes an excellent product. Shop around.

I want to do it, just cus I want to do it. Getting the scope for a trade on a old browning pistol I have never used, figured why not.
The red dot needs to be smaller than a aim point I think.
I already have a aimpoint and it's nice, but would like the best of both worlds

AimPoint makes a MicroDot. That's about as small as they come. Primary Arms makes a Microdot that looks a lot like the Aimpoint part. Your only other option is a small holo site that doesn't require batteries.

Here is the scope I need to mount.
I have a regular iron sight in the front so the scope needs to be high enough to not be bothered by it.

If your rear sight folds down, you won't have any problems mounting a scope. This image shows my M&P15 with a Nikon M-223 3-12x42 scope on a Burris PEPR mount. The ocular lens cover just barely clears the rear sight.
BTW, resist the urge to get the NC-Star mount - it's cheaper than the PEPR mount, but it sucks (I say this from personal experience).

JS, that looks good, my rear sight is a combat, folder. But my front is a standard, that won't bother the scope will it?
Can you flip your rear sight up with the scope on? If not I will probably get a quick detach.

It shouldn't be a problem, but the front sight I have is only $75 or so, and it's easy to swap.

I think if you study the photo, you'll see that it won't. Besides, why would you want to flip the rear sight up if there's a magnified optic on the rifle?
IMHO, there's no reason to go to the added expense of a QD scope mount. If you REALLY want instant versatility, then you should mount a scope as I'v done, and then pun an offset mount on the rifle for a red dot scope. I'm pretty sure you can get these as a single mount (a single mount that mounts both scopes).
However, that's more for competition than for actual field use.
I think what you need to do is study up on the various sighting systems, and configure your rifle for what you want it to do. People can (and will) provide their personal opinions and obvservations when you ask for advice, but in the end, it all comes down to you and the intended mission for the rifle.
For ME, I replaced the standard front sight post with a Yankee-Hill folding front sight, and the Magpul BUIS for a Troy folding rear battle sight. These two items are always on the rifle. For sub-75 yard shooting, I have an unmagnified red dot sight, and for 100+ yards, I have the Nikon M223 shown in the picture I posted.
You can make things easier on yourself by just using a red dot and adding an appropriate magnifier on a flip-off mount. This configuration allows you to retain your iron sights.
The key thing to remember is that iron sights are not intended to be used with a magnified scope, so being able to use the rear sight while the scope (as opposed to an unmagnified red dot) is on the rifle is an absurd notion.

I have a aimpoint red dot on it now. I am planning on doing the scope and a offset micro red dot. I want the option to use eather. I got a deal on the scope so I figured I would put it on the AR.
I like the option of removing the scope to use combat sights, but will probably never need to remove it quickly.
Thanks for the info!
