Default Scope recommendation for mp sport

I currently have my new mp15 sport decked out with a vortex strikefire and it is nice. However the new range I joined has 200 and 300 yard targets that I would like to be able to shoot but is to difficult. So I'm thinking about getting a scope and switching back and forth between it and the red dot. Since the rails are numbered it should be right on the mark if I switch back and forth right? I've seen quick release mounts for scopes can I buy something similiar for my strikefire

Also do you have any scope recommendations? What kind of mount do I need to deal with the front sight? I currently ha e the red dot set up for cowitnessing with the iron sights

If you go to search above and type "sport scope" you will find many past threads on this same topic.

I have a Nikon Coyote Special scope on my gun right now. It has a BDC reticle. (Bullet drop compensation) It has points for 100, 200, 300, and 400 yards. It only has 9x zoom though. It is made for hunting so idk how good it would be for at the range and all that.

You will find that for most shooters who look to shoot 200 yards, a 4x scope can dot he job. A 6 or 7x is more than enough for good shooting to 200 yards. For ragging the same hole, you might jump to a 3-9. For 300yds and beyond to say 500yds, a 4-12x scope is more ideal, and a bit more expensive. At that range, you are into match ammunition and lots of practice. That Nikon would be a really excellent choice, as it is made for the .223.
Remember, to qualify as rifleman, we had to shoot with iron sights out to 400 and 500yds with Xm855 ammo on a man size target. For marksman, the long shooting stepped out to 600 yds. With iron sights. My eyes could not do that today I am afraid.

Nikon M223 series at Primary Arms. 1-4 or 2-8 cover most carbine use ranges. Hard to beat, for the money.

I bought a Barska Contour 3-9 for my sport.
Works great so far in 3 power you can leave both eyes open like a red dot scope and turn it up for longer ranges.

Primary Arms is cheaper if you don't live in Texas (where you would be charged tax AND shipping). I had to order my M-223 from somewhere else.

The M-223 3-12x42 BDC has return-to-zero turrets and side focus. Great scope.

As far as the mount is concerned, I'd go with a Burris PEPR mount. It's relatively inexpensive (as low as $70), and is a quality part.

Lots of great suggestions. Nikon also has a new entry level P-223 series of scopes. 3-9 BDC and Rapid Action Turret mark with distances to 600 yards and a new 3X scope for those of you who have good eyes and like to shoot with both eyes open. Good scopes built on the PROSTAFF platform. They were very well received at Shot Show last week. The M-223 1-4 Point Blan Reticle will do great to 200 yards. After that my eyes need 2-8 or my preference 3-12 magnification.
Also, if you want to swap out scopes, I think Larue makes excellent QD mounts. They are also $$, but if I am buying a set for my rifle, that is what I am getting.
Here's a pic of the new P-223 3X Carbine Scope.

Those are among the silliest looking mounts I've evr seen. I'm not sure the purpose of them vs a straight up and down extra-high ring.

Jay, Those are 2 piece mounts that show you flexibility. If you want ot mount a scope like the Carbine one pictured you have them face each other, for longer tubed scopes they can be mounted facing different directions. Flexiblity and a sub-$50 price point have made these P-Series Mounts a very hot item. But as I usually add, find what works best for your needs and buy it.

I see what you mean about the flexibility. And less than $50 for a pair? That's something to look into. But they still look goofy when they are pointed towards each other, IMHO.

Jay, I have to concur, but it's all about flexibility. These P-Series Mounts are quality machined and I have mounted about a dozen scopes to them and I was throughly impressed. This application will be perfect for guys just getting going with AR's and all of us who own AR's in 22 LR.
