None that I've seen, besides one-off problems you'll get with any manufactured product. S&W ARs are built pretty well. Typically if there are problems with a gun, we'll get lots of "problem" threads here on the forum. The vast majority of Sport threads are positive.

I've only got 500 rounds down range, and have had no issues with mine. Aside from the usual grumblings of; "it has no forward assist or dust cover", I am not aware of any real issues.
Absolutely love mine.

I have about 800 rds through mine so far, and I have not had one single problem. The lack of a Forward Assist and bolt cover bothered me at first, but now it doesnt bother me one bit. In the end, it lowered the price of the gun. On top of that, Im not sliding around in the sand, throwing my rifle in the mud and water, or had the bolt not fully close. Take care of your rifle, and it will take care of you.

My only problem... keeping it fed.

It feeds, fires, & ejects the least expensive .223 steel cased Russian ammo I can find. It just eats up whatever ammo I put through it.

I have about 400rds through mine. I've had no problems.

No problems. Above average accuracy with perfect function. I am using magpul magazines and red-dot Aimpoint from Sweden. Good rifle and a keeper for home defence.

Wow, my dealer must have some stoopid markup prices. I paid $750 for mine, which was still a good deal considering he was selling Bushmasters and a few other ARs for $1400 and up.

I got mine for $699 + tax from Cabelas. They had some Bushmasters with red dots for $799 + tax but I liked the M&P better.

Your dealer is ripping you off! The MSRP is $739. Seek a new source!

That was operator error. He had a malfunction and didn't clear it. I have shot 2000+ both factory and my own handloads and love my entry level AR. Stay tuned because I'm going to make some single shot bench loads for my leetle friend.

I wouldn't hesitate to have a friend of mine buy one of these guns to get into the game.

Yup. He didn't assess the appropriate malfunction. He didn't put the signs together that indicated the high probability of a squib.

He Tap/Rack/Banged when he should have cleared the firearm & checked for barrel obstructions.

Default Ar 15 sport II

Seems I'm the only one that has had a problem with this rifle.
I purchased it 2 weeks ago. Took it to the rage to sight it in yesterday.
After about 6 rounds, i had a round not go off. Next my trigger didn't reset after a shot. I noticed the trigger pin had walked to the left letting the trigger shift. After pushing the pin back in, i had about 4 more rounds not go off do to soft pin strikes. And the trigger pin started to walk left.
I took it back to the store that i purchased it from. They are sending it to smith and wesson to fix. I will try to update this when i get it back and test it.
I don't know if smith and wesson will tell me what the problem is. If so, i will let you know.

After only one week, gander mountain told me my rifle was ready for pickup.
Seems the hammer spring was put in backwards at smith and wesson. The man at gander mountain said they had 3 other sprt II weapons that had that spring in backwards. Anyway, one week to get my rife back is really fast in anyone's book.
Took it to the range today. It had no problems at all. I am pleased with the speed and now with the rifle.
So if anyone you know of has this problem, you know what to look for. The hammer spring legs should extend from the bottom of the hammer's pin not the top.

I bought mine about 3 years ago. I've got probably 2,500 rounds through it - combination of factory ammo and reloads. I put a 3-9x scope on it and a Geissele trigger in it.

The thing is rock solid. One day at the range I had a long streak hitting a gong at 350 yds. The guys next to me kept saying 'He hit it again! He hit it again! He hit it again!"

It's a great (and fun) rifle.

Right.

If you're under fire that's the right course of action. Otherwise, it's a good idea to stop and diagnose the problem before proceeding.

Great shooter, accurate and well made. I bought mine last month from Grabagun, paid $597.00 out the door with free shipping.

Holy 4 1/2 year old thread Batman.

And no, you are not the only one with a problem from the factory, but I will admit they are pretty few and far between.

Default unhappy with the m and p15

Well I must be the second only individual with a problem with this rifle. I find it really uncomfortable to shoot. It does not sit well on the bench with my set up and I have quality bench rest equipment. On the bench and off hand it dislodges my ear protection . Accurate yes, feeds well, and responds well to reloading but I just find it uncomfortable to shoot. I guess you can't win them all.
Cheers

Is this problem somehow unique to the S&W M&P-15, or do you find other ARs equally uncomfortable?

And if it is unique to the M&P-15, can you explain what that unique feature is?

Try the Ruger AR-556. I bet it will fit quite well!

The Sport, or any other AR with a M4 style configuration, is not a bench rest rifle. This is a "battle rifle", made to be shot from field positions. Wrong tool for the job.

As far as the ear protection, I bet you are wearing over the ear style muffs. Many times these just don't work well due to cheek weld on a rifle. In the ear protective devices work well with all rifles.

Default problems with ar

Yes is do understand that this unit is not a bench rest rifle Still for sighting in purposes I use a bench rest system and testing loads. And that it is a battle rifle as you say so be it. I have heard from some vets that it is not their choice. As for hearing protection yes I do use muffs as I find the ear plugs not good enough. We all have our opinions and preferences.
Cheers .

I just put a couple hundred rounds through my sport II yesterday and also tried with muff style, and just won't work, My son was with me and he gave me a pair of ear plugs that worked so well I thought I was deaf !!
They were kind of a soft foam with 3 rings that inserted into your ear for a nice tight fit and they have a string that connects them. He gets these from his work place for free!! But I'm sure they sell them somewhere.. You could also try a different style butt stock with an adjustable cheek rest. But they are kinda pricey!

Default problems with m@P rifle

Hi I am doing just that looking for that type of protection because it is really annoying getting your eardrum blasted. I am currently looking into construction safety stores when I go to the City but have not found the right one yet. And yes there are other expensive stocks around many out of stock. I wonder why!
Cheers

More often than not, I end up using just in ear hearing protection with any rifle since even the slimmer designs still end up getting in the way. With my larger caliber rifles, at least on a bench rest where noise tends to be amplified, I end up using both in and over ear hearing protection but the ear muffs still tend to get in the way.

I also have a pair of ear plugs that are connected buy a plastic band that goes around your neck... But the problem with these, is the plastic band bumps around and amplifies the sound back to your ears and its very noisy.

I use over the ear style. And yes a few times I have hit the headset! But that is life not everything fits everyone My buddy uses the over the head ear plugs and loves them, guess I will look for a set to try . As for bench shooting I have not tried that yet but will be to sight in my Vortex Red Dot. Will I get rid of my Sport II because of a few minor issues Nope

Bought mine at Cabela's earlier this year.
After a little over a 1000 rounds whether it be brass or steel ammo I have had no problems whatsoever...

Dude, you drug up an old thread and your issue is with a 15-22... wrong forum. I see that you already posted in the correct forum, so not sure why you posted it here as well.

The Sport II is an incredibly popular entry level AR15, but there are also some with plenty of AR15s who are picking them up as well. In my case it filled a gap in my collection. (I needed a flat top carbine set up for low light use, my other carbines have a fixed carry handle or scope.) Some who have their own AR15s are getting them for their wife and kids. They are a very cost effective gun. There are cheaper AR15s out there, but you start deleting key features.

Just back from my second range trip.

No problems with the M&P-15 Sport II mechanism at all. 100% success at getting it to digest both factory and handloaded ammunition with bullets weighing from 45 to 60 grains fed from plastic, aluminum and steel magazines.

My problem was with the factory-supplied MBUS rear sight. Suffice it to say that after range trips in October and November, I couldn't ever get the sights adjusted properly; the rifle was consistently impacting lower than it's point of aim.

I replaced the MBUS sight with an M16A2 style carrying handle/rear sight and within five three-round strings, I was shooting groups at 50 and 100 yards that could be covered with a quarter and at 225 yards (I don't have 200 yards), the groups were within 2 inches.

So, my experience is that the Magpul MBUS sight is the wrong size and so doesn't work. When it was replaced, everything was quickly sighted in and the rifle worked fine.

With all due respect, the stock Sport MBUS works for the majority of the people, so it's probably not the sights that are the problem......unless you got one that was defective.

2 co workers of mine bought the sport 2 to use as a patrol rifle. We went to the range and both had problems with double feeding. One of the rifles smoothed out after a few magazines and never had another problem. The other one had to be returned and after S&W replaced the BCG it is now a reliable rifle. A local department issues them for patrol rifles and have not had any problems with them.
