Default M&P 15 Sport - Slide Fire stock + Timney 3lb Trigger

This concerns the 5.56 Sport model, not the 15-22 model.

Looking for some firsthand experience or for one of the knowledgeable members to offer his firearm's insight.

I have a Slide Fire stock on my Sport. The stock trigger breaks at approximately 6.5 lbs. I just purchased a Timney Competition 3 pound trigger and I'm waiting for it to arrive.

My goal in purchasing the Timney 3 lb. FCG is to increase the already significant rate of fire afforded by the Slide Fire stock. My logic was that a lighter trigger with less creep and no take up would allow the weapon to cycle faster, and thus fire at a higher rate.

Does this make sense, or are there other factors I'm missing that could work against my logic?

My use of this rifle is strictly for range fun, so I don't need to hear about how an increased rate of fire won't allow me to hit a target at 300 yards or other such things.

Thanks.

I am sorry, the slide fire stocks look all cool and stuff to me and this is all my opinion, but I honestly never gave it much thought, I love my Timney Triggers in other guns and they work great, But I have only seen one other SFstock. The theory sounds right, but I would be really careful when you get down to 3 lbs of trigger pull, and a slide fire stock it could be very unsafe as easy as it would go off. About 3 lbs of trigger pull is what I myself "and all of this is my opinion" put into my best bolt action hunting rifles, if you get much recoil at all and someone who is not experienced firing it, I can see a potential runaway and maybe someone getting hurt. As I see a slide fire they are made to work with a 6-7lb trigger making the force necessary to be deliberate and once you take it to 3, the force doesnt need to be deliberate. I would be uncomfortable at any range where that was being shot. But this is all just my opinion! I would say, dont do it!

You're gonna burn through your barrel quick with all that FA firing. Melonite is hard and all but these civilian weapons were not designed for that sort of sustained FA fire, these are range and hunting guns.

Plus, you're going to burn through your wallet quickly also.
A LGS owner and friend of mine put one on his RRA AR and said he was amazed at how fast he went through ammo. I wonder about the runaway concept since when you lift your finger the firing should stop.
To each their own I say. Have fun with it, be safe, and get back to us with your results with the Timney.

Regards,

Hobie

Hobie, you don't think that with that light of trigger the possibility of an accidental slide fire discharge would be likely. I don't know cause I don't know. I have a hard enough time buying ammo as it is. LOL

I put my timney 3lb trigger I was using for my 15-22 into my RRA AR-15 and achieved a cyclic rate of 900 rpm. 30 rd 2 seconds. And my trigger takes a good bit more pressure then my bolt gun. I've never unintentionally fired the weapon even when handling it roughly ( running/gunning)

In fact I prefer it over my stock RRA 2 stage match trigger.

I think it would be really fun.
I wouldnt want to use "cheap" ammo thou,a squib would porbably be hard to react to in time.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compari..._AK-47_and_M16
Shows a M16a1 auto fire rate is 700-950 rounds per min.
GaBoy25 getting 900 r.p.m. with a slide fire stock is awesome

OP,
Your theory sounds spot on, let us no how it goes, a video would be sweet to see as well.

Oh ya, your barrel should be fine, just don't touch it = )

In a couple of years when the ATF changes their position on this device, seizes the customer list and comes knocking on your door looking for your gun, let us know how that works out.

I would honestly have to say I can't rule it out. I hope the OP tries it out at an empty range or at least have everyone aware of what's going to take place.
I'll be interested in his results.
I know that at this time I could only afford about 6 seconds of range time.

Hobie
