Default AR Budget Build

Gentlemen, I realize this isn't an M&P question but this is the best place to post my question....

For you AR guys, a friend of mine picked me up a stripped lower from a company that is going out of business at really good price, I am looking for complete upper assembly to build an entry level AR, I know I'd prefer a flat top so that I'd have the options of optics or removable sights. Any suggestions on a budget minded upper would be greatly appreciated, I still have to get the lower parts kit and the other goodies, so this will be sort of a build as you go thing for my first AR.

Thanks,
Rick

Palmetto State Armory has received good reviews for budget builds. Supposedly all mil-spec. You can get the complete upper w/ bolt carrier group and charging handle for $408.

PSA 16'' M4 Upper - On Sale! - Complete Uppers - AR-15

You can get a kit that includes the upper and the parts to finish the lower for $500.
16'' M4 CMV, Chrome-lined, Rifle Kit - Rifle Kits - AR-15

These are both flat top uppers with the front sight base.

I personally am happy with the stuff coming out of Windham Weaponry. I thought they were good as Bushmaster, and I think they're better as Windham. You can get all the parts you need, a la carte from their website. I have been ordering things recently and have only experienced a 14-21 day wait, on average. That's not bad in this recent climate. I just received an M16 bolt carrier today, which I ordered January 16th.

It will cost you a bit more than $400 - though - unless you already have the upper receiver.

Its going to be hard to find a complete upper anywhere right now and even harder to find a BCG. PSA has some of the best deals on uppers when the show stock on the website.
