Default Shot new MP15 Sport

Just brought my gun up to my uncles property and blasted through about 200 rounds. This gun is the best purchase to date. Every shot was flawless and the gun is a great. I have a few questions for those who have been in the field longer than myself.
1. Is there any good resource, such as a magazine, where I can just browse through AR parts for my gun. I have been doing a lot of google searches but nothing beats looking through a good magazine with everything you could possible want.
2. I have read some articles about buying a second complete upper to be able to shoot 22lr (due to the cost of ammo and be able to shoot an ar in indoor ranges). I know some say just buy the MP 15-22 but I was just seeing what others opinions where out there and where they might recommend picking up a complete second upper.
Appreciate anyones feedback!

I would recommend just getting the 15-22. That is what I'm about to do. I am getting it more for my wife and girls to shoot but even if I wasn't I would just get the second gun. I myself am looking for a good overall magazine too for my AR and handgun in one so hopefully someone has some recommendations. I will say this forum is where I have seen every thing I want to get and usually has a place to get it as well. Good luck and welcome.

Welcome bro! You will find this forum very welcoming to the Sport owner Most of the big websites offer a catalog. There are some AR15 bi annual roundups by the likes of Guns and Ammo. There is one on the shelves right now ( red in color "Book of the AR15 Magazine) with a great write up of the sport.

As for the dedicated 22 upper,,,. CMMG as well as a few others offer them. Its a slippery slope as they usually cost $400 plus and you could pick up an M&P 1522 or Ruger 1022 for that ( thats why you get that response lol. You could also build one if you are savvy for a bit cheaper but its you decision

As for catalogs/parts websites I like

Rainierarms.com

Primaryarms.com

Bravocompanyusa.com

and the real big boys

Cheaper than dirt.com

Midwayusa.com

Brownells.com

Request the AR 15 specific catalog from Brownell's. Link below.

The cost of a dedicated .22lr upper to mount to your standard AR 15 lower is about the same as purchasing a S&W M&P 15-22. The cost argument is moot for me.

Disclosure: I own a 15-Sport & a 15-22

I can see your choice falling into one of two criteria.
1. If I installed pricy aftermarket AR parts on or in the lower, primarily a pricey 2-stage trigger, then mounting a dedicated .22lr AR upper makes sense. I'd have the same trigger press, rifle weight, & feel for training.
2. If I keep a stock combat trigger and more affordable (subjective) aftermarket furniture, then purchasing an entire dedicated .22lr platform such as the S&W M&P 15-22 makes sense. Iron sights are iron sights. Combat triggers are combat triggers. The only thing you wouldn't be able to simulate is rifle weight.
You'd also have two rifles, not just one.
There is also a third option. You can buy a CMMG .22lr conversion kit. It consists of a .22lr bolt & a .22lr magazine. Swap out your AR bolt for the .22lr bolt, insert the .22lr mag, and you're ready to go. I haven't tried this myself, but I've read a few threads that have a common recurring caution about using a .22lr kit. .22lr fires dirty and it may foul the gas tube.
