New front handguard
I found a new front handguard that I really like. It is by a company by the name of American Built Arms:
https://www.abarms.com/AB_ARMS_LTF_H...p/abaltfhg.htm
I really like the look of this and was considering ordering one for my Sport, just wondering if anyone has any experience with this hand guard. I have one of the company's 7 slot rails on the bottom of my present handguard and like it. Just asking, for $40 bucks and it has the aluminum shields in it. I think it looks better than the Magpul myself.

Don't have it, but I like it. It is on my radar.

it seems that everyone has either a quad rail or a Magpul, they have this one and one with a top rail. The thing I dont like about the top rail is it is not even with the receiver rail, but as soon as my CCard payment hits I may have to have one.

I like that they make videos for the products.
The 60 day warranty seems a little short but its better than nothing.

Cool find oneyeopn. I'm very interested to see it mounted on your rifle, and your impression of it.

I mentioned that to them and they said that it enabled people with the offset lights to be closer to the point of aim. But I did mention it, I to like the one without the upper rail. I wont be mounting anything up there and all of their side slots will accept a rail for things off to the side which I dont for see me doing. But I like it especially the full length aluminum shields in it. Hope to have it Saturday. I will post pics and tell ya'll how it feels and works.

I spoke with the owner of the company this morning via email. He told me that in the next few months they will be coming out in the standard furniture colors so that people who want something other than black will have the option. Report on it to come as soon as it gets here!!!

My New handguard is at the post office but the window doesnt open till 11:30am CST. Talk about having to be patient plus the sling stud mount that Wihunter sent me is there also. I will have reports and pictures today...I hope it is as cool as the pictures and videos showed. Plus I sent Osprey Defense an email asking questions about their piston gas system. It looks really nice and I am thinking I would love to figure out a way to get one for my rifle. There is always something that a person wants for his "Black Money Hole" its that dang EBR disease!!!

I'm not a fan of piston systems. The AR 15 uses a rotating bolt the gas key directs the gas to the rear of the bolt (hence the gas rings). It was never meant to be hammered back by a piston. Most piston guns do not have locking bolts. I've seen $1500 piston AR's with excessive wear after 500 rounds the geometry is wrong and the gun was never meant to have a piston. If you want a piston gun buy an AK. If you don't like to clean buy a chrome bolt and carrier. I added a Rainier Arms hard chrome BCG it slides like it's on ball bearings and the soot just doesn't stick to it.

Wihunter, what about the kits that come with a new bolt carrier? Does that change it? I dont know so I am asking questions. The Piston kits are all real pricey and before I start saving my nickles to purchase one I want to understand them. I may start a new thread about this.

The new bolt carrier just removes the gas key and replaces it with a piece for the piston to strike. Hence the wrong geometry the force from the piston is on the very top putting downward pressure on the rear of the carrier causing excess wear. The DI sends the gas and pressure to the center of the carrier driving it in a straight line no pressure trying to make the carrier pivot.

You will find most people are very passionate about their pistons just like the forward assist crowd. But I've fixed enough jammed guns (thanks to the FA) and replaced enough prematurely worn upper receivers. The misconception with pistons is that you don't need to use as much lube facilitating the wear. The DI will stop working if it gets dry and you can squirt some oil directly into the bolt in the field.
