newb with a tax return..
Hi I'm CEN.
My dad, brother (chipper) and 4 of our friends have ar's. Ive been wanting to join the club for a couple years now and this year my wife finally gave in and let me buy one. This is what I bought.
$699+tax S&W M&P15 sport
$101 Mako Tactical Foregrip with Integrated Adjustable Bipod
$169 Troy Industries MRF-C BattleRail M4/AR15 Type Carbine (7-Inch)
$113 Streamlight TLR-1 LED Rail Mounted
$22 Hogue Rubber Grip Ar-15/M-16 Rubber Grip with Finger Grooves
$23 magmagnet for the bullet button
$89 NC Star Mark III Tactical 3-9x42 Compact Riflescope for Weaver/Picatinny w/ P4 Sniper Reticle
Is there anything that I should change, upgrade or just flat get rid of. BTW I can return anything on the list.

It is all your choice, a lot of us recommend going out and shooting your rifle and then deciding what you want and what you need to change. Also a lot of it has to do with personal preferences. Like myself I dont care for a quad rail. But you might want to get rail covers for the unused portions of your rail. I just bought a new AB Arms handguard which has positions for rails if you want to add them but don't necessarily have to have them. But welcome to the club and enjoy your rifle. It also took forever for my wife to give in and let me have one. Let me tell you it wasnt a lot of fun going shooting with the guys when you are firing a bolt action 8mm. Every shot reminded me of the money going down the hole and the work to reload it. I promise you $.30 a round is a lot different than $.50 to $1.35 (reloads vs commercial) per shot. Enjoy and "Stay Thirsty My Friend" LOL
p.s. I just bought a Mako Magwell Grip that I think is pretty cool, just havent had a chance to try it yet. More toys to spend money on and a whole drawer full of take off parts.

CEN,
Congrats on locating and acquiring a 15-Sport! While Illinois has a 24 hour wait on long-guns, it has a 72 hour wait on handguns. I can sympathize with your frustration.

Oneyeopn, sounds like you're a prime candidate for a M&P 15-22. You'll go from 30₵ a round to 3₵-4₵. Warm up with the 15-22. Transition to the 15-Sport.
Tell the CFO that a 15-22 is a long term cost saving investment.

JaPes...I love my old Marlin Model 60, but the CFO wants one of the pink 15-22's and I am sorry but I dont want to change furniture to go shooting. LOL...the people I shoot with mostly shoot AR's and I can out shoot them within a reasonable distance with that microgroove barrel. I needed the excuse to get the Sport, Thats My story and I am sticking to it!! But Yeah I will get a 15-22 probably my next purchase, around christmas time. But I dont want to get the pink one!!! LOL

Buy two standard ones. Keep one in menacing black for you. Put on some pink furniture for the one you give to your wife. If you put on the pink furniture or paint up some pink furniture, it's like making a hand-made personalized card. Chicks dig that extra sentiment put into stuff. My 80 year old mom still has a macaroni shell decorated birthday card I gave her back in the early 80's.
Then throw in the extra rationale for the CFO, the icing on the cake: "It's so we can go shooting together."

Hey Grover, You don't have to change furniture on your wife's rifle, she wants pink, buy her a pink one(I've seen them, pretty nicely done too!). Then she's got her own rifle to share a hobby with you.

My wife wants the Talo pink platinum 15-22. Gun show at the end of the month here in O-town and if they have it I will get it for her and my girls to shoot. I will just have to get my own down the road.

Well I was going to just buy a couple hundred rounds to test everything out, then wait for the next gun show and buy a case or two. But Ive sense read not to go buying a ton of ammo before trying different brands to see what you and your gun prefers. I will research what rounds go well with the sport.

I have a sport and so far it has digested and actually shot pretty well everything, even the russian steel ammo, I tried a couple of boxes of Federal XM193 and they worked a little better but still they have all worked well enough to shoot some nice groups and some Pdogs at distance. I am now thinking about reloading going for that last bit of accuracy. I have been shooting 55 grain everything, but I am starting to think maybe I should have gone with something in the 60 to 70 grain range..this is all my opinion and YMMV

Tyvm for your opinoin oneyeopen.
I'm trying to learn everything i can so again ty. I've read some bad reviews about steel case. I've read some good reviews on the federal brand. Unlike my gun accessories, I'm going to read up on ammo before I buy, not after. Dadgum impulse buys lol
