Default M&P #811008 rail question

I have this a M&P #811008 with a factory quad rail.
My question is should the rails be tight to the rifle?
My rails seem to be tight as a group, but the are not tight to the rifle

Gripping the fore end and twisting the pistol grip allows slight rotating movement, left to right.

First modern AR for me and just not sure.
This was really noticeable after adding a Harris bipod yesterday.

Product: Model M&P15X Rifle

It does not appear to be a free float hand guard, so yes you will have some movement.

You have probably checked already but make sure the movement isn't from a loose upper to lower fit. It could fool you into thinking there is play with your handguard. take your upper off extract the BCG and charging handle then double check the play within the handguard. I believe those handguards are made by troy industries and should have screws that hold them into place (I would double check those too).

I swap out between MI gen2 drop in quad rails, and magpul moe handguards. Both handguards have provided me with a tight fit and zero play. The quad rails are a slightly better fit but both lock up tight. Everything I have read about the troy drop in rails says they should be tight fitting as well, so it's definitely something you'll want to look into!

as a rule of thumb you may expect some movement from non-freefloat handguards, but in my experience (which is not much) handguards should lock up tight enough not to bother you
