After cleaning the bore...
I put a a rag on my bench. Put the muzzle down on the rag. I spray Break Free Powder Blast down the gas tube & blow out whatever gunk is in the gas tube. I then pull a few dry patches down the bore, then follow up with a lube moistened patch.

DON'T!
They are pretty much self cleaning, they'll get to a certain point and then blow the crud out themselves.
If you start pouring solvents or using pipe cleaners you're more likely to cause a blockage than leaving it alone.
The one exception to that is if you use a .22 conversion kit, those things will lead up the gas block hole eventually.
If it concerns you that much, better to just buy a new gas tube and have it on standby on the off chance the old one actually fails.

Don't waste your time. There is zero benefit to cleaning the gas tube in a normal AR firing 223/5.56 ammunition.

Me too JaPes, I cleaned mine in the service for 22 years and never knew I didn't have too. All I did was just use a pipe cleaner.

Wow there is a lot of different information, a couple of different people say to put the upper muzzle down on a rag and use either break free or brake cleaner down the gas tube and blow it out and some people say don't bother that its self cleaning. I dont have pipe cleaners and have only shot .223/5.56 ammo in it. but when I pulled my gas block to change it there was quite a bit of carbon build up in the gas block itself. But I was having no problems.
