Default My New Old Sport

Last April Cabela's had these on sale, but were sold out same day. Got a raincheck, didn't come in until last June. I used to belong to a gun club here and did a lot of shooting. About 4 or 5 years ago, gas went to $4 a gallon and I wasn't shooting as much so I let my membership expire. What a mistake. Contacted the club last week to rejoin. $100 one time initiation fee, $150 yearly dues. Have to have a club member sponsor, or 2 letters of recommendation, and attend a club orientation meeting. Also be a member of the NRA, no problem there, have been for many years, and I still knew a member who wrote me a sponsorship letter.

I was looking at 05/05 as the first time I could take the orientation as they only do it on the first Saturday of the month. I got an email Thursday that someone cancelled and they could get me in Saturday, 04/07. It started at 8:30 and finished at 4:15, there was about 20 of us. We were finger printed to run a background check. Sat through a slide presentation on rules. Toured the range, took a test and still not done. They have an indoor 25 yard range at another location. On May 10th we meet there at 6:00 to tour it and learn how to operate the fans, lights, air and heat, and how to clean up after shooting. At 7:00 that night is the general club membership meeting and they will or won't vote you in.

It realy is a nice range and is about a 30 mile trip to the outdoor range, indoor is about 15 miles. Outdoor has 8 ranges, 30 postition 100 and 200 yard rifle, another 100 yard range with berms at 75, 50, and 25. A moving target range for pistols, a general purpose 50 yard range, a falling plate range they also use for cowboy action, a 50 yard bullseye range, a 50yard pistol range with baricades, and another 50 yard general purpose, what they call plinking range, because it has a few spinners. They said there are between 7 and 8 hundred members now, and they will probably cap it at a thousand.

I guess I'm getting older, because I never had this much patience before, but you can bet I won't let this membership expire.

My sport, I put a quad rail I bought from ebay on it, a Walther red dot that I read some good reviews on Midway about, and a JP yellow spring kit that really did lighten the trigger pull. Got plenty of ammo and Pmags, ready for May 10th to get here.

You've had to wait a long time to go shoot this, you should really enjoy it.

Thanks all. This is my first AR. I own several varmit rifles, an SKS, several .22 rifles and plenty of revolvers and semi auto's. Hopefully won't take to long to become comfortable with this. I used to reload for every thing I own. Got divorced 8 years ago and moved everything to my brothers because I didn't have space. I've brought some of my stuff home. Now that I'm getting back into shooting, need to get the rest.

He stored my stuff in his basement, which gets damp sometimes, not excessive, normal midwest humidity. Do you think my powder and primers will still be good?

My powder and primers were still good after about 26 years.
