Will the M&P 15 sport drop in price?
I want a sport but im wondering if i hold off a while if the price will come down. The local store has them for 600 before tax. What do you think?

Buy it. Don't think about it. Go now.
Current MSRP on the 15-Sport is $739. Last year it was $650.
IMO, prices on firearms will not come down until after the Presidential Election. Fear based buying is driving up demand. Firearms are selling like hotcakes, and there's no incentive for manufacturers, wholesalers, and dealers to lower prices.
I've noticed certain affordable ammo is hard to find now too.

I agree prices seldom go down and usually goes up and considering the demand the sport has will most likely increase and stay up.
I paid 700 for mine on 2/9/12

There are people that have posted that they have placed deposits down and do not expect delivery until January 2013. With that kind of demand, the price will not go down. I am surprised you are able to find one at $600.

$600 is a good price for a firearm that is in very high demand
Say you waited 6 months and the price came down $50.
which it will not.
you would have $50 extra to spend on ammo or etc., but you have lost 6 months in entertainment time which cannot be recovered.
the sport is a fun gun.
you decide.

On a related tangent...
The only issue I have with the increase in firearms sales is that the firearms manufacturer's are increasing the pace and volume of production to meet demand. As the volume and pace of production increases, so does the inevitable occurence of human error in: manufacturing, assembly, & final quality assurance.
All it means is that I have to be extra vigilant in inspecting a new firearm before accepting it. When I bought my new M&P 9, I thoroughly inspected the one the salesman pulled before he logged it onto the 4473. I rejected the first one due to a gritty trigger. Second one was smooth as butter.
I bring a small LED flashlight & a flexible bore light with me when I go to look at firearms. I've noticed the lighting at most gun counters isn't really conducive to inspections.
I like that firearms sales are increasing. I like the possibility that a portion of the sales spike may be from new fireams enthusiasts. I like that firearms manufacturers have more money to invest into R&D to produce new models.
It's a great time to be a firearms enthusiast. It's an even better time to be an experienced firearms enthusiast.

Ask yourself this.... When have you ever seen a big demand for a product drive the price down?....I suggest you buy one now before the price goes up!

600 is a good price I agree, will the price drop...I think unlikely. Maybe a little in January if Romney wins but even if he does I still think there will be a lot of sales, the sport in general has grown a lot and not just because of politics.

Wolverine thnks the price of the sport will come down, but thinks the price of the M&P shield will go up.
OK, buy both now and sell the shield when the price goes up when you think, then apply that profit to your sport and call it good.
There's more metal in the AR's than the pistol, it's only natural that over time, the cost of production would go up on the AR, when? No idea. You're not gonna find the sport for 500.

In the current environment, NO the price will not come down, maybe after the election but not if BHO gets reelected.

I got my M&P 15 Sport at Clyde Armory in Athens, GA for $609 last year. I don't see the price coming down. I've seen a lot of questionable brand AR's at gun shows for a bit less, but I have always been confident in Smith & Wesson products.
I've shot the day lights out of my M&P 15. It has never failed to function perfectly. Georgia coyotes hate it!!!

Don't know where yours is for sale but around here most of use allready have them that want them and extras are not allway what someone else wants and can hurt. It doees hurt when dealers don't discount prices and people still buy from them. I have a general store down the street than discounts everything he sells. No matter the demand. Suppliers prices don't change ,so his doesn't.

Ok I was thinking that I would take the money out of savings today and buy another sport for $425, but as some of the members here told me in the past and they are right, I am going to build my next one, I havent figured out what caliber yet, I really want one in 243 win. But AR10 parts are outrageous and the other reloaders that I talk to say the new wssm cartridges are a nightmare to reload. So I will see what I build. I want to find something legal for deer in my state so anything over .23 caliber..
