Default Sport Scope mount

I have a 40mm scope I would like to mount to my Sport. I would like a quick release mount something like or maybe this one if it would be the right height. I have no idea as to the height I need. I don't want to spend 200 bucks for mounts. Any suggestions for a quick release mount on a budget??

NcStar Weaver ¾" Riser Rail Quick Release Scope Mount MARFQ | eBay

thanks

Gary, I have that particular QD scope mount and have no complaints about it, have used it a lot. I quit using it when I went to the super long scope but I have been looking at a railed handguard and a free float tubular handguard and with my front sight being removed I also purchased a QD front sight, I am getting ready to put it back on so I can switch between BUIS and the Scope. I am not sure but I think it was JaPes that told me to make sure I blue loctited my screws. and I did and never had a problem. I would recommend it.

Flip a lever. The perp comes in 2 versions a qd and a regular bolt on.
Pic of it. I think amazon used the pic of the bolt on one.

Ok,sorry but I have to ask, the NCStar will clamp to the stock picatinny rail right? Now is the top rail a Wilson rail?

Will this put me at the right height or do I have to have high mounts?

I read some reviews about the thing and they weren't so good. Some love them and some don't. I think it's worth the try. If it doesn't I'll try the Burris.

A lot of people like the PEPR but it is still twice the cost of the NcStar. It all depends on what your budget will stand.
Breechloader thanks for answering that I was confused LOL

Well the burris includes rings so you dont need to buy those seperate.
You can probably find the burris cheaper at optics planet (they take paypal too) if you google for a coupon for them you can usually find a 5-10% off one.
Yes that nc star is cheaper for sure thou.

I am assuming you have used these on your Sport. I just want to make sure they are the right height to work with the stock front sight. I sure would like to find something local but no one has anything.

No i dont have the sport I have the optics ready version.
I do know the perp works with the sport from others that use it with one on this forum.
Search this forum for burris and you will find others that use/have used it.

That's fine. As long as someone has had exp with it and it works. I'll check prices.

thanks

With your regular scope mounts this will put it at the right height. It fastens securely to the top rail without a hitch. Thats what I had it mounted to and thats what I am going to mount it to but I will be able to move it forward for the big scope now. There are other things I like to spend my allowance on. Someday if I find the right deal on the PEPR but I havent found it yet and I still have my NcStar mount. Had a local kid offer to buy it but I saved it for my own use.

it says you can pull the rear ring off of it so you can mount your red dot also. Thats kinda cool.

I have a Nikon 2-8x M-223 scope in the Burris PEPR and it's the perfect height on my Sport. But when I bought a 6-21x Simmons I used some UTG QD med height scope rings. which are a tad to short. I should have bought the high profile ones instead.

I just ordered the:

NcStar Weaver ¾" Riser Rail Quick Release Scope Mount MARFQ

I went with the two rails in case I have to adjust the height. I hope the rings I have will work.

Thanks I hope I get the mount this week. I'll let you know how I make out. I really can't work up my pdog loads without a scope. Right now bench rest open sights with federial ar223 ammo I'm about 5 or 6 inch groups at 100 yards. With the reloads I'm at about 3 inches. I'll be able to tell better with a scope.LOL

Yeah it really is tough to prairie dog hunt without a scope, at the range you can hunt them from and the target they present optics become a necessary item. My nephew brought his OR last year with an ACOG and to be honest it wasnt enough scope. If they were within 150 yards it was alright but after your first couple of shots it all moves out to the 200+ range and they are the size of a small red squirrel without the tail so the ability to draw a very fine bead becomes a must. Make your trip come by here and I will show ya.

Thanks for the info. Yeah I will probably invest in a more powerful scope, something like the Tasco Varmint. Right now I'll mount the 12x.

Hey let me pick your brain again. I was a "The" Walmart and saw the Centerpoint scope. I know we talked about it before. How much magnification do I need? The Centerpoint is 16x. I think the Tasco goes to 24X. I know more is better but the advantage of the Centerpoint is easy return to Walmart if there is a problem. So is 16x enough or should I really go with the 24x.

Depends on your eyes, the quality of the optics and what your expected shooting ranges are. On my two varmint rigs, one a 223 the other a 223 AI, I have a 5x15x50 and a 4x16x40. These are both mid range quality scopes, a Bushnell Elite 3200 and Nikon Buckmaster. A low quality piece of glass with high magnification will not serve you as well as a higher quality scope with lower magnification. I'm a firm believer of buy the best you can afford but you would most likely be better served by saving a little more and buying a better scope.

I bought my centerpoint 4 years ago and have been very happy with it. I originally had it on a custom 8mm Mauser. The optics are bright and clear and to this day it is a fine scope. My Optronics Buckridge is now owned by Zeiss but it has great optics and works real well it is the 8-32x42. I do not treat my rifles as diamond rings and accidents do happen especially to the optics. If I were looking for one right now for my Sport, I would buy one of the following. Another Centerpoint 4-16x42 , an Alpen anything from the 4-16x42, 6-24x50 or the 8-32x50 or one of the new Vism's probably the 6-24x50 or the 8-32x50. When shooting my Sport I spend most of my time between 18 and 26 power but I am rarely shooting 100 yards anymore, usually a lot further. This is all my opinion. The scopes I named arent the bottom of the ladder but they arent the top either. For the price they function well, all have good clear optics and tend to be parallax free, but as I said this is my opinion. YMMV

I found a new Cantilever Scope Mount today, it is on Sale for $35.97 free shipping. Here is the link;

eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

It is a no name mount, but unlike the NcStar the rear ring is not removable. I believe that the more pieces that are removable and not solid is more room for error. But it is inexpensive and the dealer has an excellent review history. If a person is looking for a fixed mount cantilever and cannot afford the Burris this is not a bad looking set up.

Nice. Looks just like the non-QD PEPR mount.
