Just recently (1 week ago) purchased a MP 15 sport. Looking at the rifle it looks like it has a sling mount where the buffer tube/stock comes out of the receiver.

Can I take a spanner wrench, loosen the nut and rotate this mount to where I can attach a sling?

That is the receiver end plate and it indexes on a nub that sticks out directly below the receiver tube. I do not believe that is a sling mount but your receiver end plate. Enjoy your Sport I enjoy mine. Sling mounts that go there are inexpensive and easy to find. If you notice most of them have the indexing nub on them also

They do make End Plate sling adapters that put a small loop on the end plate, they are pretty cheap and not hard to install. They do make them that go on rails too but I just don't trust those and I would think it would get in the way of optics.

When you replace the plate be aware there is the rear take down detent spring on the right hand side facing the butt stock.
