Talking Has anyone tried the exploding (tannerite) targets?

Has anyone tried the exploding targets? I just ordered 20 of the 1/2lb targets on a whim...wondering what to expect. So if you have any experience let me know. Thank you

Lots of fun. Follow the mixing instructions and you will be good to go. For a louder boom try taping several 1/2 pounders together.

Here is a link to a video my boss put together from our team building campout. We set off several of the exploding canisters.

1/2 pounders are a good start. Once you get comfortable with mixing etc buy it in bulk its cheaper.

You can mix a few cans up and then dump them together in to a larger container if you want. You don't have to mix individual cans and tape them together. The 1/2 lb route is great. I mix a lb bag and then poor it out in to smaller containers for smaller explosions. One lb will completely destroy a large metal trash can. I like finding the right amount to shoot, inside of an object that won't blow up, but go sky high.

Just had some fun with this stuff with the boys. I ended up mixing up 2 lbs and then pouring it off in to a bunch of perscription pill bottles. Turns out those smaller pill bottles full of this stuff is enough to disintegrate a cinder block! Pill bottles were about an inch wide (although I did have two a bit larger, maybe twice the capacity).

You have to hit this stuff to where the bullet passes all the way through it. First shot my boy made put a half of the bullet through the side of the first bottle and it didn't set it off, just spilled some out.

We dug up all kinds of things to blow up such as an old trash can, old bbq grill, couple of metal pans and a artsy fartsy flower looking metal thing.

To give an idea of the power of a small pill bottle, the first bottle was set up on top a steel 15 gallon barrel (the kind oil or thinner would come in). We put a brick on the barrel, and set the bottle on the brick. Exploded the bottle, it was unobstructed all around except for setting on the brick. It disintegrated the brick and blew the top of the steel barrel down in the barrel.

Taped one bottle inside the pot metal lid of a propane grill and it shredded the lid and the base. Taped another behind the front metal panel of that same grill and it shredded that metal panel and collapsed the steel legs of the frame. Another was placed inside an old steel 2 drawer tool box, lid shut. Completely blew the lid off and V shaped the rest of the tool box.

This stuff sure brings a great big smile and a lot of laughs to the boys.

For a rifle I had taken two, but we only used one. Took my M&P15a, but only used the one I put together which was a New Frontier Polymer lower and DPMS oracle upper. Pretty darn accurate rifle as most times we only had a one inch orange target dot to hit from about 50 yards out using a Truglo 2x red dot, the red dot ended up being the same size as that one in orange target dot. I was pleased with the rifle and the Truglo, I had used them together once before, but had removed the Truglo and put it on another rifle to try out awhiel back, then put it in the drawer. I just stuck it on today and tightened it up and it was still dead center. We rotated turns shooting and my oldest boy never missed a shot. Youngest boy got about 4 hits in as well.

Yeah brother you know I have . I don't know the brand my buddy had but they were awesome! They are diffinitely positive feedback for long range shooting skills. Kind of like the feedback you get shooting steel on a pistol range.. but on steroids. Be careful and enjoy my friend.

Don't forget an AAR after your session.

Schedule 80 PVC. 1" pipe, with the correct Sch. 80 caps. Approx. 2" long piece of pipe. Packed in fairly tightly............

Just be sure the immediate area is clear of anything you do not want being propelled in your general direction.

If I may make a suggestion. A five pound bag of flour on top of a 2 1/2 pound can of tannerite makes a beautiful fire ball. When the kids come to visit this is our favorite pass time. It is a hoot how competitive they become they will sit behind that scope for what seems like minutes to get the perfect sight picture. Cheers Joe

I love these things. All sorts of stuff you can do with them. Some family picnic fun. Hollow out a watermelon. Keep what you want to eat, or not. Place canister in watermelon. Have fun.

P.S. Pumpkins work nice too, lol.

My friend Kip bought some. It was marked that it had to be set off using a bullet with a velocity of at least 2000 fps. We taped a pound of it in a baggy to a piece of plywood, then backed off to about 30 yards. I had a 150 gr. handload for my .30-30 that was just under 2000 fps. I hit it with my first shot, and it scared the snot out of us!

We shot a bunch more, and we were always closer than the recommended distance. It was a fun novelty, but I've never spent any money on it. Having grown up around gunpowder, making a big boom has never been a mystery!

Make sure there is no loose debris, including gravel, on the range between shooters and spectactors, and the Tannerite. It can and will turn objects into projectiles. The further away the Tannerite is, the better. And wear eye protection.

This guy got the perfect birthday present. A firearm, explosives, and a car. And how do you make use of the perfect birthday present? Drive the car till it quits, plant the explosives, shoot the gun! Cheers.

If you buy the larger targets, 2 pounds say, make certain you thoroughly shake it to mix the catalyst. You may be disappointed otherwise.

I bought a few cans for my kids. From 100 yards, you could feel the ground shake! I'm surprised tannerite has been legal this long.

It's pretty cool!
